It's been a while. So, I'm getting this car slowly assembled for a proxy race in the fall. The good news is that it actually runs and that's 3 months before the deadline. I'll need all 13 weeks of that time given my proclivity for procrastination.

The bad news is that this BRM is powered by a $2.50 motor that usually goes in electric toothbrushes. And it's going to be up against some nuclear powered competition. I can only hope the opposition flies (literally) off the track, because my stubby/tubby BRM doesn't move nearly that fast.

Almost ready for our 1966-7 F1 Proxy race series

1966 BRM P83 H16 short nose version raced at 1966 Mexican GP driven by Jackie Stewart

In 1966 the F1 engine regulations changed to permit 3.0-litre or 1.5-litre supercharged) engines. BRM refused Peter Berthon's and Aubrey Woods's proposal to build a V-12 and instead built an ingenious but very complicated engine, designed by Tony Rudd and Geoff Johnson, the H16 which essentially used two flat 8 engines (derived from their 1.5 L V8) one above the other, with the crankshafts geared together.

BRM found the H16 attractive as a design because it was initially planned to share design elements and components with the successful 1.5-litre V8. While the engine was powerful, it was also far too heavy and very unreliable . The only victory for this engine in a World Championship race was by Jim Clark in the Lotus 43 at the 1966 US Grand Prix. The BRM H16 cars, P83 and its successor the P115, did not fare well, the best finish being Jackie Stewart's second place finish at Spa in 1967.

The car was a bit of a brute, but it is a BRM and the rules this year were for cars from 1966-67, and I'd already built a P261 last year. So here it is.

Chassis: 1Up wire and brass
Motor: Solarbotics FF030 (no torque, but it spins pretty well and it's small so I can use a full body driver)
Gear Ratio and Gears: 8/24 Ranch Design Aluminum Crown..
Front Axle: 1/16
Rear Axle: 3/32
Body: Very modified SCX
Tires: NSR
Wheels: SCC C.B. Design

The car will be ready after I add the mirrors (my least favorite task), true the tires, and adjust the axles. Now I can get back to finishing that Brabham!
