Well nearly finished the bridge. Bought a new lacquer (a lighter one) came out just right - no perfect - just right.
Painted it up added some nails to give it a more realistic effect and 2 tree trunks for the sides of the bridge.

What you think ?

Looks really good! How did you do the logs? Are they real sticks?

Cheers

Thanks Astonman

I borrowed the idea from O scale model train guys (they've been a big help). The logs are 3/4" (18mm) Dowel cut to 12"(300mm), then using a rasp file (looks like a big cheese grater on the file)

start filing, once it's past the outer layer it gets easier, then you are able to scribe in some deeper cuts as well. Follow the grain to give the effect, and i left on the little fibres that will pop up. I stained with a new Wattyl Gel Stain called "Honey Oak" it comes out darker due to that I do not wipe off. Made for interior timber. But i found that it may be better to paint on a black coat first then rag off - leaving just the paint in the grooves. then staining, therefore giving the bark a shadow effect.

Item list;
Rasp File $29.95
1.8mt of 18mm dowel $9.95
Wattyl "Honey Oak" interior stain $9.95
Paint brush $2.00

After the initial purchase, you then only need the dowel.

cheers
Brendan
