Yesterday evening we had another wednesday evening event at Creative Hobby's headquarters, this time it was a 1965-1975 Sports and Prototypes race. Cars used were mostly Fly classics, but we had a Spirit and a Slot.it car. Most cars had a Slot.it throughout, that means wheels, tires, axles, gears and motors, were swapped. Only the GT40 was running a stock fly motor and the Spirit 512M was running stock wheels. Sports (closed cockpit) cars were also allowed to use the Slot.it v12/3 25K motor, the v12/2 29k, the MB krahs 23 or the v12/3 21.5K but for prototype entries, only stock motor, v12/2 25k or v12/3 21.5k motors were allowed, just to even up the field a bit. So we ended up with a very nice field of cars, shown below on their individual pit boxes:

1st heat cars at the bottom, 2nd heat in the second row

2 round of 5min runs on each lane, 40min racing overall for everyone. should be enough for an evening's fun cheers.gif !

In the first heat we had :

Alexis' Spirit 512M, Andreas' Fly GT40, Thomas Fly 512S and Petros' Fly 917/10

A close battle for first between the 917 and the 512M, the Ferrari was in front anyway but a bad motor, sparking and smoking at the final minute of the last 5min run on the Porsche, extended the gap a bit more. The GT40 with the stock motor but with a very good driver, was behind and the 512S had some trouble and was next.

In the second heat :

George's Fly 512S, Christine's Fly 908/3, Maria's Slot.it 312PB and my Fly 917K

In this heat, the Slot.it 312PB, driven smoothly by Maria, just took off and left everyone else in its dust. A fight was developed between the 917K, the 908 and the 512S, but the 917K had fewer deslots and managed to get away a bit. Next was the 512 and then the 908.

For the second round, we allowed the owner of the 917/10 to change his problematic motor with an older one, that we figured would not blow itself to pieces and we continued racing.

So in the first heat, again the battle of the 917/10 and the 512M was fierce, something that in real racing would not happen due to the extreme power of the Porsche turbo engine, but here in slot world, both cars were using the same powerplant. For about 18 minutes the Porsche driver had managed to clear the gap of the first round and both cars were almost on equal laps, but then the Spirit driver paid his devotion to the scale appearance of his car, when the stock plastic wheels of his Ferrari, began to loosen up and the car had to stop each lap to the pits to tighten them by hand. Precious time was lost and probably one or two places down the standings. Tough luck indeed...!
The GT40 followed and then the no5 512S.

In the second heat the Ferrari 312PB was again on a race of its own compared to the others, so it ended up in front. A battle developed early on between the 917K, the 908/3 and the 512S, this time the 512 and the 908 finished very close but again the 917K driver avoided collisions, deslots and other trouble and finished just ahead of the others.

So final results:

In the first place after a brilliant second round drive, we had:

Petros' Fly 917/10

In the second place and holding the day's fastest lap at 9.31s:

Maria's Slot.it 312PB

In the third place a great drive but an unlucky race ending:

Alexis' Spirit Ferrari 512M

Fourth place after a stable drive with a difficult car:

My Fly 917K

Fifth place a GT40 with a stock fly motor and a very good driver:

Andreas' Fly GT40

Sixth place a rookie driver with the car that won last season's vintage Sports car race:

George's Fly 512S

Seventh place another rookie driver with another Ferrari:

Thomas' Fly 512S

Eight place for another rookie in her first ever slot car race:

Christine's Fly 908/3

We had scheduled a combat round between the 2 race organizers and owners of Creative Hobby, Chris and George, but time was running out and we didn't have a chance to admire these two guys racing eacgh other with their Lolas:

But next time they will not get away so easily !!!! grump.gif

Until then, have fun and keep slotting !!! banana.gif
