Flat Cap Trophy

After months of preparation and eager anticipation, the TSCC 2012 Flat Cap Trophy for Classic Saloon Cars finally gets underway with Round 1 on May 23rd. The championship entry list includes junior and senior members from the club, plus three proxy entries from Slotforum regulars; Pete Shepherd (‘Scudbong’); ‘pace1970uk’ and Alexis Gaitanis from Greece. Junior TSCC members have also benefited from a generous donation of PCS chassis kits from Sean Fothersgill at Pendleslot, which in turn, has helped positively encourage interest in kit/scratchbuilding and kept costs to a minimum.

The following pictures are a few examples of cars built to compete for the trophy, most of which are TSCC members first ever attempts at self builds.

Mal's Datsun Bluebird (club member)

Graham's Imp (club member)

Mal's Ford Zodiac (club member)

Marc's Alan Mann Lotus Cortina (club member)

pace1970uk Datsun Skyline (proxy entry)

Pete Shepherd's Escort Twin Cam (proxy entry)

Alexis Gaitanis Fiat Abarth 500 (proxy entry)

Martyn's Lotus Cortina (club member)

Lee's Datsun Skyline (club member)

Paul's MK10 Jag (club member)

Tom's (Iron Man) Imp (club member)

Dave

A BRM of a different color

I like BRM's, I have quite a few, all green !!, so on my latest BRM build I searched for something different, and found one.,....Bob Bondurant's #25 P261 from the 1966 British GP.

The shell is a MRRC P261, with a few bits added, and, inserts from BWA.

The car sits on a scratchbuilt chassis, and competes in our 1.5 ltr. GP class. I still have to build up a few rear suspension pieces.

Cheers
Chris W

alker

Alfa 33 x 3

Hello all

You may recall some recent navel-gazing from me over what red was used for 60s-70s Alfa sports cars (see here). The final verdict, thanks to Mike Newns was AR130, spray cans available from Ebay (a bit pricey but so are Alfa slot cars!).

Below is the first phase of my final solution to the Alfa 33 problem – a Proto Slot Le Mans 1968 Alfa 33/2, a 1970 Le Mans 33/3 by the same manufacturer and a bog-standard Slot.It 1971 33/3 for colour comparison and because they look nice together!

Lost the original metal 'radiator' for the nose - haven't had time to work that one out yet.

The two Proto Slots were stripped and resprayed (that took a bit of nerve – the last 33/3 I saw on Ebay went for the wrong side of £130). There’s been a little bit of diddling done – metal carb intakes on the 33/2, thanks to another thread in this Forum, chrome etched or fine wire grilles, better lights, air intakes carved out etc. The wheel inserts derived from the 33/3 (not quite right for this car but perfect for the 33/2).

The most successful innovation was to use the Slot.It chassis plus interiors for both cars. This makes a big difference – the basic Proto Slots tend to use inline chassis, which means no room for an interior and you end up with the old ‘Driver up to his armpits in strange black goo’ appearance.

Is it me or is De Adamich squinting into the sunlight?

Overall, they’ve come out nicely – and more alfa 33s are in the pipeline …….

Best wishes

Andy

Owen Racing Organisation

During the French GP at Reims, July 4th, 1954, the Owen Racing Organistaion´s Maserati 250F was driven by Ken Wharton, who retired on lap 19 due to mechanical failures.

The car was entered with race number 42.

But what colour was the livery? I am pretty sure the basic colour was green (BRG), but what about the nose band? I can find only one photo of this car from race day. Please have a look:

http://alexeyzapf1.narod.ru/raceresults/19...rton_France.jpg

Comparing the nose band with the roundel behind the race number, it doesn´t seems to be white. But what then? Yellow, orange etc.?

Gentlemen, I give you the floor.

/Holger

Cutting 1/8 Brass Tube

I have some brass tube for use as a sleeve for front axles it is 1/8 round brass tube. I have just purchased a cutter which says it cuts from 1/8 but I think it must be that I went cheap it will not cut through the tube as the cutting disc hits the bottom before it has made a mark on the tube.

Can anyone advise me of a tool which actually works for this task.

Thanks

Marvin

Strombecker McKee MK10

Our club has voted in a CanAm class for our 2012/13 season, for cars competing in the series from 1966/74. As I am lucky enough to have a few of the original Strombecker shells, I decided to start with the McKee MK10........not the prettiest car ever built,.... nor,... the most successful, but after seeing "Frank Capua" (Paul Newman) drive it in the 60's movie Winning, I have always had a soft spot for it.

Strombecker successfully managed to make their model equally as ugly as the original, added to that it is long and very narrow.....just the ticket for a killer car!!

The body is largely stock, although I did make a few bits (mirrors, rollbar, aluminum intakes, exhausts, and, trans. cover), and it sits on a modified AMT chassis...(The AMT brass chassis is in my opinion the best non scratchbuilt brass chassis of its time), and initial runs have shown the car to be very competitive.

Cheers
Chris Walker
