Avant Slot Lotus Elise GT1

Limited Edition Ref 51601
Production Run : 1000 Models

Following on with their matt black limited editions theme, here is the brand new Lotus Elise GT1

You have to agree, it is nice to see something
different... and the Avant Slot Lotus Elise is certainly that!

To enter the GT1 class, Lotus realised that they would only need to build a single production car in order to meet homologation.
The car would not even need to be sold to a customer; it merely had to be built.

So the car was born

As you can see, the slot car is a great model with dimensions in keeping with the real car and not just made for the track

Running on the type 5 normal chassis (20523) with gearing of 10/27 and powered by the Hurricane 27,000rpm motor (20102) sitting in the angle winder motor mount (20526).
The Lotus comes with semi front axles with 3 grub screw adjustments on each side.

Overall impressions of the car before tuning

The Track
The car will be tested on the 110ft North Staffs Scalextric Racing Club circuit in Longton Stoke on Trent and if you have raced there you will know this track is no easy circuit for the slot car.

Standard Car
First impressions of the car out of the box on track are positive. Handling is good although the box tyres have very little grip but this is the same of all out of the box cars on this track. The motor is very lively but lacks speed down the main strait and this is likely due to the gearing 10/27 and I will change this later. The car achieved a respectable out of the box lap time of 8.80 and with tuning there is defiantly allot more to come from this car.

Upgrade
I am not a big fan of the sort hub rear wheels where the grub screw is inset into the edge of the wheel, mainly because we glue our tyres on the rims making these rims unsuitable for rear wheel use. These have been replaced with a sat of NSR 16x8 air wheels with ultragrips trued and glued and treated with 3in1. The times dropped immediately and with such a small change, 7.20 was the fasted achieved and this is only 5 tenths away from the fastest Slot.it/NSR cars.

Gearing was the next area to modify and a change from 10/27 to 12/30 was a good step, the car now had a great deal more speed especially down the main strait and still had the speed out of the corners and propped the times into the 6.80’s but there was still more to come. The gearing was changed to 12/27 and I can only say wow the car managed a 6.60’s consistently and hit 6.58. This is such an amazing time considering the relatively low expenditure on the car compared to the fastest Slot.it and NSR Approx £90.

In total the Car: £42, Pinion £2.15 and NSR wheels and tyres £15.50 Total= £59.65

Future Upgraded
I thought I would share the next upgrade that I must make to this car. It is the addition of the Avant Carbon Axles £4.50 weighing just 0.3g compared to the standard Avant and Slot.it axle 1.5g lighter and 0.9 lighter than the hollow axle. I can see a few of my cars using these axles in the very near future.
