SLOT TRACK SCENICS TRACK ACCESSORIES

Review by Taxi

Slot Track Scenics are another new company offering a range of goodies to enhance your track. The range of products is small but with some innovative ideas that make these accessories quick and easy to add to your track.

Sorry if these seem like odd pictures to start a review, but these little plastic clips are the keys to a very well thought out system. The clips are mounting points for most of the accessories. The clips also have mounting points for the Scalextric 'Armco' barriers, which is a neat touch. As you can see from the photos, the clips can be attached either way round, and to the inside or outside of your track. You don't need different clips for each application, one universal clip design is used.

These are shown with Scalextric Sport track, but the company report that the clips also work with Ninco, Scalextric Classic and SCX analogue track. The clips will also attach to the current Scalextric borders, though they are a looser fit because the lip on the edge of the border is different to the lip on the track. Nothing that a drop hot-glue wouldn't solve though...

So that's the clips, what else is available?

The photos shows two types of sign board and a brake-point marker. These just slot into the 'tower' on each clip, no glue needed, sorted in seconds!

A range of advertising signs are available, and of course different numbers for the brake boards.

Time for a question - there's something that you see around every racing circuit in the world, but not one of the manufacturers makes them as an accessory for our tracks. What is it?

The answer, of course, is tyre walls!

Well, the wait is over! These are very nice and, I think, destined to be very popular. Each section consists of 5 stacks of tyres and is 87mm long (the same length as a 1/4 straight). They're sold in packs or ten, with an appropriate number of clips. Owners of routed or permanent tracks might be interested to know that the tyres are available without clips at lower cost.

The tyre walls are made from synthetic rubber. They're flexible enough to place around corners and to absorb the impact of a stray car without damage to the car or the tyre wall. And they look great too!

The tyre walls slip onto the towers on the clips and that's it - done! The signs can be fitted through the tyres for extra effect if required, and the clip design allows sections of Scalextric Armco barriers to be fitted behind the tyres.

They really are quick and easy to use - two tyre walls and two signs (and 4 clips) probably took less than a minute to put into place.

Covers are also available for the tyre walls. Each cover will fit around two walls. They're backed with adhesive, so you just peel off the backing and stick them onto the tyres. A couple of colour options are available.

The final items covered here are these little 'ground-based' signs. Available as brake point markers or direction signs, they're neat and effective. There is adhesive on the underside of the base to allow them to be stuck securely in place. The example on the right has been finished with scenic grass, just for effect.

Below are a couple of photos of some of these accessories in place around my routed track. Obviously I couldn't use the clips here, but a few drops of hot glue solved any installation problems!

I must admit I'm really impressed. Slot Track Scenics are offering more than a few nice accessories, those clever clips make this more of an integrated system. It's all obviously well thought out and very easy to use. Quality is also excellent.

More items are in development, including safety fencing and kerbs, and possibly their own borders.

At the moment these items are only available direct, the company's website can be found at www.slottrackscenics.co.uk - lots of useful info, hints and tips etc too.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to order some more tyre walls....
