I know little
about the Sloter Company as I’ve never owned one before, so I did a bit of
a check to find. Based in Spain they have been in business since 2005 with the
founder having a history in racing since the early 60’s. The company
policy is “to build be powerful, stable and manageable machines,
leaders in their category, with the unique aim to compete to the maximum
level with the maximum facility” it may loose
something in translation but I’m sure you’ll get the picture. The 1:1 Zytek 07S was built in
three versions, one to LMP1 regulations, the other two to LMP2. It proved
to be a winner in the latter category with a first and second at
Silverstone and victory at Interlagos during 2007. good…
Gulf colours always a good selling point, the decals
look clean and crisp of a high quality though the paint work is not quite
as tidy as it could be, lines not quite as crisp as they could be and has
a few minor crack lines in the paint under the rear spoiler. The driver is
minimally decorated and the interior of the car again lacks detail however
is as good as most of the major manufacturers at the moment.
Initially I felt the wheels looked wrong but then a check on photos of the
original and they are correct in size and colour. This is a nice looking
model but the original is slightly different, I figured it out this is
really the 04 shape painted up as the 07. Well we know of other
manufacturers that do this all the time. This one looks to be missing a
mirror and if you look there is still an indent in the wing where the
mirror should fit.
To get it out of
the box it has a screw fitting so simple, I’m getting fed up of cars fixed
to the box in such a way that takes an age to remove them, so I like this
keep it simple approach.
The car
reminds me of the Fly Panoz which we have it is of course similar in shape
it’s similar in build quality too, only this time……the motor is at the
back which works better.
First trials on the track WOW the
NOISE! Off the track body off let’s see what’s the cause, it’s absolutely
bone dry inside not a hint of any kind of lubrication anywhere! But
just look inside and there is lot of potential, the motor is a basic
Mabuchi inline shape but it is fitted in with adapters so a long can could
fit, it’s in a floating motor pod and this chassis looks like it can take
an angle winder mount, a quick check on the web site which states “Option
of angle winder mountings will be available shortly” Just sit it on the
block and the chassis seems perfectly flat, now having been told off
several times I have learnt my lesson “No hot glue is going anywhere near
this car!” I’ve recently affected the chassis of two cars by adding weight
using hot glue - so that is a practice that has been stopped in this
household.
This car handles
well, much better than some from bigger and experienced manufactures I’ve
bought of late. The motor revs well and brakes nicely too. The tyres are
slightly harder then I’d prefer but that’s not unusual and to race I would
normally change them for something a little softer in anycase. For those
that race with magnets this car has a button magnet and though I haven’t
got a plexi track setup at the moment I’m certain it will perform as well
as any of the major Slotcar brands out there.
So all of us that play with slotcars want them to
go faster this car has so much going for it. It really is a case of
potential, potential, potential! This was really something I’d initially
not expected, however there are just so many options, it has to worth
looking at from a racers point of view I’m very impressed. It has a few
blemishes but they don’t matter if I can get it drive well, and to go fast
that’s nothing else matters. As for that company policy this is going the
right way. Many thanks to Pendle Slot Racing for supplying the review model |
