With this year fast approaching it`s end, I can look back and reflect on what was a great year,2009 was for Anglia Slot Racing. I just hope every one of the members enjoyed their racing as much as I did. Yes we did loose some members. Some were valueble to the club and are sadly missed but we carried on and came out of the downs on top! Mistakes are made by all, not all the time but they are made all the same. I admit to making mistakes and I will make more in the future but I try and learn from them and the next time I put it right, or try too
Our first year is over and we attracted over 30 members. Fantastic job I think and I`m looking forward to 2010. Our sister club, NSR in Norwich are now in a fantastic position with new premises, new owners and a new track just weeks away. Both clubs now have a good relationship and are joining forces and looking at running some inter-clubs championships, one of which will include BRM 1/24th scale cars.

I could not have started this club without the help of my friends (Jim, Matt and Shaun) and I would like to thank them very much for their support. My mum and dad turn out every week and do a fantastic job in the kitchen, keeping everybody happy with the refreshments. My friend Martin for stepping in at short notice and running the club when I was unwell. My friend JP who stuck by me when I felt the whole world was against me and lastly to Jude who has helped me through some really tough times.

After I resigned from Meridian Raceway, I almost immediately got support from fellow racers who urged me to start up a club of my own with their help. Those people were Jim Wright, Shaun King and Matt Guy. These three also raced with me at Meridian. We had a couple of meetings at Jim`s house and we came up with the name of the club, Anglia Slot Racing. I contacted a friend of mine who runs a church hall and we agreed to the rent and as a bonus we could store the track there.
What would we do for a track? We discussed all buying and supplying plastic Scaley track with the idea of pinning it to boards. They thought it was our only option but I had other ideas
I wanted a wooden circuit as that was what we had been using at Meridian so looked around at the different builders and their prices. That was when I came up with the plan of going down the Slotfire route. With this system we could make a different track plan each week as the track would have to be put away every night. My co-founders (friends) were shocked at how much this would set us back but I was in the fortunate position of living back with my parents after my divorce and having some money to show for it. I persuaded them to let me buy the track as I wanted to give them the best circuit money could buy
The track was ordered and on 22nd October 2008 we had our first meeting. We only have three classes of cars to keep costs down for new members and we race on four different circuits in rotation. We have no committee as such as personally I feel that is not such a good thing but everything to do with the club is never done without consulting the others first.

After almost a year racing at Presto Park I decided I would like another night of racing. I asked Mike if he would open up on a second night but because of other commitments that was impossible. I saw a track for sale on E-bay and contacted a fellow racer and asked him if he would like to split the cost. He said yes and `Meridian Raceway` was born in August 07.
We started out renting a hall and after 3 weeks we found some premises in a barn at Salhouse near Norwich. Seeing as we had attracted a lot of interest, we knew the club would be a success so took up the challenge of renting these permanent premises.
The club ran really well for a while, 20+ members racing six classes of cars, then we moved again! As we had a committee by this time, the move was voted on and I was the only one against. My reason was the cost of the new unit. We moved the club one Saturday morning and I soon got used to the idea (No choice really).
Due to some personal issues I was having and a clash of personality with another founder member I decided to resign in August 08.
The club is still running to this day but under a different name and finds itself back at in Salhouse.

Well I`m not sure exactly when I started but it was about three years ago. I went round to visit my sons who live with their mum. My youngest was out up the shops so I waited and when he got back he showed me a leaflet he had picked up in a model shop. It was advertising Presto Park. I contacted Mike Harvey who owns the club and he told me that the club had only just started out but my youngest son Jaik (Who had found the info) was too young as the age limit was 14yrs. We still went along and raced which was great fun and Mike let Jaik have ago during the interval before the finals. Two days later I got a phone call from Mike telling me that it would be OK for Jaik to race as he could see he was good and could control the car well. The next few days was a nightmere until wednesday arrived again and off to Presto we went. That was the start of this hobby for us.
