A very long time ago I was donated an old Scalextric Jaguar Group C car. A long time ago it seems now, but actually on 3 January 2009 I blogged that I had started to convert it into an Aston Martin AMR1 but had run into a few problems but hoped to get going again soon. A year and a half later I've got back into it! I had left it with the side pods cut away and wondering how to go on while I pondered how to resolve that problem. Some pondering!!

I've now scrapped off the rear side radiators as the Aston Martin has rear deck radiators. I've also cleaned up round the lower nose area to a certain extent. The Aston Martin is quite different here but I'm not sure how much I'm going to change as it may make it a bit fragile. If I use a Slot.It Jaguar Group C chassis as a donor then it should be OK but then I've got to work out how to screw the two together.

Next on the agenda is sorting out the "front bonnet" area whilst I still consider how I'm going to construct the side pods.

Hi Nick

The original scalextric chassis of this period can be made to go well with some modification. If you fit a conventional guide and fix the front axel then they run ok. I made a Sauber this way to go club racing with. I substituted the running gear for Ninco and it held its own against the Slot.it and NSR cars (also IL mabuchi). It may help make it a little easier?

I could be talking waffle because there's every chance you've lost the original body posts allready wacko.gif

Hello LMP

Thanks for your comments. I've still got the mounting posts intact on the Scalextric bodyshell as I have considered using the original chassis like I did with my pair of repainted Saubers (blogged much earlier). I used Ninco rear axle and "Porsche" wheels front and rear on them. It all depends on what suitable wheels there are for the Aston Martin. I'm considering a Slot.It chassis as I quite like their boxer motor and installation is made easier because of their pod system.

More developments to be blogged soon.

Nick
