I have been a model kit builder most of my life starting with the "daddy" of them all Airfix. I still make kits although I have to say my production rate hardly rises above one per year nowadays. It must be an age thing. I'm very good at looking at them and deciding what I'm going to do when I get going. I blame it on my slot racing and I only go club racing once a fortnight. Actually for the last nine years I've worked six days a week from Easter to end of September so I think that is a good excuse. Fortunately that regime has all changed for this year so I really don't have any excuses now. Anyway, a mate of mine suggested we go to the Salisbury IPMS Model Show and I'm glad we did as I really enjoyed it. There were some terrific models on display and some that would look like I had built them as well. There was a great stand which had models of various propellor engined aircraft which had been wired up so that the propellors spun. It included a stunning WWII Zero which had an authentic soundtrack to go with it; fantastic. Although most of the aircraft are displayed "wheels down" there were several in "flying" mode including some great looking gliders at extreme angles. Just about all my aircraft "fly" although not from the bedroom ceiling as my wife won't let me hang them! I didn't intend to buy anything but did find some "gold" bare metal foil which will probably find it's way onto one of my slot cars in due course.
