Since I've got back into slot car racing with next to no cars, a large percentage of the cars I've bought have been because I had to, to go racing at the club. There have been some other cars however, that I bought just because I really liked them. Cars such as the Revell Greenwood Corvette "Spirit of America" and the "Red Lobster" March 83G which just look great. And then there was the Fly Lancia Beta Montecarlo that I had seen win the 1980 Brands Hatch 1000kms and the Spirit Rollcentre Dallara because I support the team in the LMS.
Like I have said previously it was the internet pictures of the Slot.It Group C Porsche 956's that really got me going as that series was my personal "golden era" as far as motor racing is concerned. The "Newman" Porsche 956, a car I had watched win the 1984 Le Mans 24 Hours and a particular favourite, was quickly purchased. When the Jaguar XJR9 was announced I looked forward to the Le Mans 1988 car but of course that particular model was never going to be the first off the production line. I had to wait a little while but today, the postman delivered my order from those very nice and efficent people at Pendle Slot Racing.

I have to confess that after saying hello to my wife and daughters I just had to dash up stairs to my bedroom so that I could open my parcel. There was a little trepidation as I got some sellotape out to take off the transfers that covered over the Silk Cut lettering but it all went like a dream and hey presto there was my 1988 Le Mans winning Jaguar in all its glory. I've yet to run it as I type but it looks fantastic. In fact looking at this slot car confirms to me why I race scale slot cars and not thingies or BSCRA types. I've got nothing at all against thingies or BSCRA, ther're just different forms of slot car racing in my opinion. Each to their own. I just like being able to "race" cars that I've seen, either at the track or on TV, on my slot track. Thats what does it for me especially with little beauties like this car.
