Nice work with the Merc Leo, really nice.
I'd love to know how you did to, in as much detail as you can bear! It might inspire me to estat-ise my spare SCX Volvo 850!

I was rummaging through my old 80's photos from Brands Hatch and came across this...

An early M5 I would guess, as it would have been about 1985. I think it was a Shell Oils 1000km event.
Cheers,
Richard

Edit: I've zoomed in on the original and I can just make out the M badge on the grill, and I think the Reg plate says M535i

A quick check on racingsportscars.com confirms it must be 1987 as that was the only year the Jags ran that livery at Brands with the Silk Cut name visible.

edit 1987 not 1887 as pointed out below

So where's the man with the flag walking in front then? biggrin.gif

Karl Friedrich Benz must have been peeved when he saw this lot just 2 years after his first gasoline powered vehicle! cool.gif

Hello Richard, am about to start on another one so will take photos. To get the rear shape I super-glued copper wire into the rear quarters and then carefully bent it forwards whilst trying to match the shape to a photograph. Once I had the "front" end of the wire at the (shortened) roof I glued that in and then filled in between the two "rails". Only had to do the first one 3 times to be happy with it, doing the other side was of-course easy !!
Volvo would be a doddle as the rear end is basically square.

Leo

I recently suffered a massive 'collectors conundrum' at the Orpington swap meet...
I had £50 left, and on the same stand I spotted an SCX Seat Leon Safety Car and a Carrera Plymouth Roadrunner Police Cruiser, both unused, both £50...

Did I do the right thing?
Cheers,
Richard

Well, I'd love to get my hands on one of those Carrera Plymouth cruisers, but then, I already have the Seat Leon Safety Car. I thought the SCX Safety cars only worked on the SCX digital system. Is there an analog version? Does the car have a chip in it and guide with plunger? If it does, and you want to convert it to analog, I'll get first in line to trade the digital chip. I believe I have the analog chip for it, just have to go and check to be sure.

Where do you guys source your flashing light bars please?

I have loads of single flashing LEDs in blue and red but the light bars seem to flash in sequence so I am assuming they come as a single unit with a pcb.

I would just use the flashers you already have. There are several sources for the roof lights as a kit. Try Evan Designs, they have a cool kit made for police cars that has flashers for the roof and headlights and tail lights. The roof flashers have no PCB, so will just flash randomly, like yours. Electric Dreams has a kit from a Scalextric Subaru that does have a PCB and so will flash alternately. Comes with 2 blue lights, so if you want red/blue you will have to swap one out. They also sell the roof bar from the Carrera Charger (no lights). Overdrive Slot Service has a light kit for police cars too, very similar to the Subaru kit. Just Google it and you will find a supplier, I know Professor Motor and fantasy World sell Overdrive parts. Found some cool stuff at policecarmodels.com too, but I have not purchased from them. Doing a quick search on eBay for 'diecast police lights' will get you a few options too.

Thanks JJJ - I did try Google and Ebay but I was using different search terms and kept coming up with flashing lights for 1:1 motorcycles!

Thought I'd throw this quick and easy scx truck conversion in here,

Really easy to do, just a piece of plasticard cut to size really!

Finally found the PinkKar Doctor Beetle at the Gaydon Slot Festival, which was brilliant. Mint unused and only £20 too!

After several leaning sliding laps I took the plunge and bought one of choc-ice's Monaco police cars & rolling chassis at Gaydon last month.
I had a go last year, and it's clear that Gareth's done a fair bit of development work, as it runs really nicely. Or should that be badly?
Anyway, the sliding and leaning is very controllable.

This will be my first foray into building cars, and I'm looking forward to the challenge of making it look half decent.
I've put the picture above up to act as a 'before' shot.

Ooh, I can see someone else is getting excited already...

Cheers,
Richard

Good to see!

Here's a screenshot of one of the cars in action

That Sheriff's car you have will chase anything!

And they're very tough. This one has done more jumps than a kangaroo
