Here is our page, any current members please say hi, and if you want to join please contact Graham Pritchard at graham@psjcoltd.co.uk

Club night is Thursday between 7.30 and 10.30pm at Hadley Athletics Stadium, Smethwick, Birmingham, B66 4ND. Please ask for how to find the club building. We run various classes each week (see the club calendar thread), and cars/controllers can be borrowed on the night. Subs are £5 per visit, and your first month is free so come along and try us out! You're welcome to have a go on the track for free before or after the racing, if you just want to see what it's all about. We don't take it too seriously and beginners are more than welcome.

Here are some pictures of our 85ft 4-lane Scalextric classic track:

First night at Bearwood Club tonight.

I explained I was doing the Slot Rally GB Championship 2011 and could I get some "trigger time" at Bearwood Raceway in preparation for Round 2 at Wolverhampton?

Graham and the guys could not have made me more welcome.

Very friendly, loads of advice and some good skillful drivers too!

I will become a regular at Bearwood without a doubt!

Many thanks guys!

Ian Howard

Hello all.

We've revised the classes at Bearwood Club recently and re-introduced a "Classic F1" Scalextric/MRRC class using 1970's-80's Johnson powered F1 cars.

Its a class you can be competitive in from as little as £5 and it allows no end of modelling potential on what are otherwise bland and sometimes unappealing cars.

Typically we race:

  • JPS Lotus 77
  • Ferrari 312T3
  • Ferrari 312T
  • Lotus 79 (MRRC)
  • McLaren M23
  • Shadow DN1
  • BRM P160
  • Tyrrell 007/008
  • Renault RS01
  • Ligier JS11
  • Williams FW07
  • Brabham BT44 & 49

The list is potentially endless and so is the fun!

Take a look at my F1 Scalextric album on Facebook

Come along and have a blast!

Ian Howard

Picked this up at Milton Keynes swap meet yesterday.

Quick re- decal and a coat of clear varnish and she's a wee corker!

Its the first time I've been to a swap meet and the guys at Bearwood gave me lots of good advice on what to buy and what to avoid.

Had a really great time!

Steve,

Many, many thanks for your advice on Sunday.

Both you and Graham were absolutely brilliant with your help and advice.

Please let me know how much I owe you for the restorations, I won't take no for an answer either!

Can't wait til Thursday now!

Glad you like the Tyrrell! Just kept it really light and simple with a driver repaint homemade decals and a light coat of lacquer. I told you I wanted a Stewart Tyrrell last Thursday didn't I? Well thanks to your advice I got one for pennies, the engine is sound too!

Finished project 2 tonight, light and simple restoration of the Williams Honda, refurbed back to race condition for tuppence ha'peny!

See pics below!

Fitted new chassis and cockpit, moved and lowered rear wing to more realistic position, fitted classic F1 front tyres and a Mansell helmet repaint.

Looks like our F1 class is inspiring others to dig their classic F1s out too!

PHEW! 3 Days, 3 F1 Rebuilds! I need a a holiday . . . .

I've never been a keen Jacky Ickx fan until relatively recently.

Of course his prowess at Le Mans is legendary but after reading Jackie Stewarts biography recently I was amazed to read that Ickx was sometimes outspokenly against the pace of the introduction of the safety measures that Stewart was calling for in the 1970s.

However, I recently read an interview in Motorsport Magazine where he was kind and gracious about Stewart and he paid tribute to all those who supported him in his career, especially the mechanics that serviced his race cars throughout his time in racing.

He was a complete master of the Nurburgring and I decided to recreate his car from his "one off drive" for McLaren at the Ring in 1973.

Apparently he had grown disallusioned with the poorly performing F1 Ferrari and quite ouspoken about the shortcomings of the management at Maranello. On hearing this Ferrari withdrew their entry in Germany (the thought being that if Ickx doesn't like the Ferrari perhaps they should not provide him with a car to race). Ferrari also suggested that there was little wrong with their car and perhaps it was Ickx that was at fault.

To prove his point Ickx went to McLaren and asked for a one off drive of an M23 at the Ring for the German GP in 1973.

Having had little or no time to familiarise himself with the M23 he put the car on the second row in qualifying and came 3rd in the race behind the all conquering Tyrrells of Stewart and Cevert.

What Balls!

This is the car I started with. A nice little French Scaley wreck from ebay.

A little time and effort (as well as some terrific INDYCALS from the USA) and this is what I've created.

Of course a few nerds will spot the Brabham BT44 rear wing, but I don't care it's close enough to the real thing and much stronger than a scratchbuilt one for the hard racing that its going to get in the Bearwood Classic F1 class this year!

Another superb night at Bearwood Raceway tonight!

Ninco touring cars, what a great class and I'd like to thank Steve for prepping my new Audi A4. Super handling car that I've just got to learn to drive now.

Already polished the car and its got all the finger grime off from the previous owner. Quite shiny!

I got a few podiums tonight so things are on the up at last!

And look at the time! I'm in bed before midnight!

Is this a record?

Nite nite zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Here's Michael Delaney (Steve McQueen from the film Le Mans) in a familiar pose!

Scratch built from an old Scaley figure a toy soldiers head and Milliput hair!

Now resident in our pit lane!

Enjoy!
