Hello another “newbie’s’” introduction.

Not sure what started my interest in slot cars but many years ago I bought a second hand library book from you guessed it the local library. The book was by Kenneth Gee and called “Your book of model car racing”. Another three books followed,” How to go car Modelling (Gerald Scarborough) which contains a chapter on slot cars. It shows several home made brass chassis and a plywood one. It also has a paragraph and drawings on how to make your own fibreglass body as well as mentioning adapting static plastic car kits for slot car usage.

My third book (A History of Model Roads and Racetracks by Roger Greenslade) is simply fascinating and as the title suggest, it is literary a collection of information about model slot and racing cars from 1908 to 1985.Well worth getting a copy.My most recent book is the “Scalextric Handbook “by James May (?) This is another book worth adding to your book shelf.
Somewhere in between acquiring these books I bought some Lindberg, Airfix static car kits, Supershells E type Jaguar and Lotus Elite body kits. Plus a Revell DB5 body kit and some vacuum formed bodies (Mk 1 RS Escort, VW Beetle and a Cobra(not sure)).

Then in the late eighties and early nineties I bought a mint boxed Scalextric TR7 , RS Mexico and a Mini Ha-ha, MRRC Mini Cooper.I also bought a Scalextrix Mighty Metro set,a XR3 Night stages set, a police 3500 litre Rover and a Capri 3 litre S.

I have other hobbies but recently I have been drawn back to slot cars and have been buying a few second-hand bits and pieces, notably two Scalextric’s XR2, TR7 and a Mini Cooper.
Ideally I would like to build a 1960’s/70s race track layout, not sure where it is going to go but for now I would like to build these kits that I have and add some more.

My interests are mainly British 1960’s/70s/80’s road cars.

Hello numpty, congratulaions on choosing such a wonderful user name, made me smile, why did you choose it?
Welcome to the (usually) happy place that is SlotForum.

Sounds like you got a good collection of cars already, with plenty of scope to expand with more 60's to 80's road cars.

There should be plenty of threads on here that will inspire you to build that track.

Thanks, I chose my users name as I have used it in other forums and it’s easy to remember.
Originally it was pick partially for the fact no one else would use it and hopefully cause the odd smile or two.


I would be interest in links to anything regarding classic 60s/70s British slot car racing,tracks,vacuum formed and resin car bodies/kits.
