Today Phil Rees, Cliff Roythorne and I, with help from Peter Barber, Martin Allsopp and Jamie Sismey built up the eight lane 122’ Brad Bowman manufactured routed replica of the Rockingham Oval near Corby, England. Having been in storage for nearly five years there is a lot of work required to get it up and running, however we hope to have it working before the end of the year

The current idea for this track is to utilise it on two Sundays during the season with four (yes four) races each day, as part of both the DHORC and EAHORC Championships (with close consultation with Deane Walpole, who has helped us with the format for these meetings). The first race would be on the oval with Indy Tyco cars, where each driver qualifies on one lane, with the top qualifier being the racer who completes five laps from a standing start in the quickest time.

The winner of the meeting will be the competitor who records the most laps from any three-minute Final. Qualifiers can choose which Final they want to be in based on their qualifying position. For example if there are 24 racers there will be three Finals. The top qualifier will want the best lane in the ‘A’ Final, the second placed qualifier may well want the same lane so can decide to go in the ‘B’ Final on that lane, with the third qualifier on the same lane in the ‘C’ should they so choose. This race should take less than an hour to run, which would then be repeated with Enclosed Wheel (NASCAR?) cars.

We have also designed two more circuits utilising the oval. The first is a 200’ track, including an eight-lane infield………….

………the second a four-lane track that uses the oval twice in opposite directions with an infield that looks like it will stretch for nearly 400’!

Following the two quickie oval meetings we would then run two more meetings on the same day, one for Open Wheel the other for Enclosed Wheel utilising either the eight-lane or four-lane infield. This would add eight meetings to the current 22 race DHORC season.

We will know more later in the year once we have sorted out all the work required to get the track up and running and secured the Nightingale Hall dates with the Rolls-Royce Leisure Association.

Cheers
Nick Sismey

That 'do you need binoculars' question comes up a lot, right Nick?

We must be supermen, us UK HO racers laugh.gif - I have seen Tony Baldock judge that breaking zone at the end of the Mulsanne (70 foot odd, right?) to within a few millimetres. Lap after lap. At 2am. Under those less than ideal lights. Having not slept for 20 or more hours. Supermen I say!!!

More people should race HO, and more HO tracks should be like those ones above.

True Deane, although the Mulsanne is 100 foot in length, but yes about 70 feet away from the drivers platform and yes it is amazingly easy to drive once you have had a practice, just like first driving on the motorway takes a while to get used to the speed! The Rockingham Oval should be flat out but of course the infield will be something different.

Cheers
Nick

We have three tracks that we intend to run

The 8 lane oval...........

.....8 Lane infield.........

.....and 4 Lane infield.

The last track will be our Club's longest by some 116 feet. Will be interesting to see it running, target is Feb10 if we can get it all wired up.

Cheers
Nick

Have you been back since the EAHORC race Dave? What about John?

Oops - I echo Dave, since the HO 'scene' is dwarfed by the larger scales in more ways than one, but has hidden depth and professionalism-with-fun, those of us in it do what we can to make it easy for slotters at large to get involved.

Hi oopster,
You would be very welcome, as Dave says just turn up and everything will be available for you to have a go, there are plenty of people there to help get you started. We had 31 folk there last Tuesday, our last three races of the year are 13Oct, 20Oct and then 5Nov. The last one is on our Le Mans track prior to our 24 hour race.

Give me a call on 07968 906 491 and take a look at our web site www.dhorc.co.uk

Hope you can make one of the above dates

Cheers
Nick
