Hi too all
I am going to chip a Ninco car, can the green resistor near the motor be removed as in pic, or does it need to be retained with a scaley chip? ![]() Thankyou for any help..... |

Robert, did you intend to post here in the SSD forum?
If you are installing a N-Digital decoder chip, the answer is yes. The green [choke] may be removed. If you are installing a SSD chip that is another matter (capacitors, ferrite men, ferrite women, etc.). I'm sure someone with SSD expertise will chime in. _michael -------------------- "Who do you think you are? Barney Oldfield?" -- Barney Oldfield

Not sure if it is needed or not. One of the guys at our club runs a similar car with C7005 chip and kept the resistor on the motor. BUT he blew one chip.
Not saying it is the resistor - it is probably the motor seeing at the NC-5 is rated at 20k &14v and 235gcm torque. I don't know if the resistor would increase or decrease the current draw. Anyway his NC-5 blew one chip and we run magless. His second chip seems to be holding out. If you run that motor with a magnet using a standard Scaley chip I think you are highly likely to blow the chip. I run my more powerful motors with an uprated chip supplied by another SlotForum member - it handles more power and allows more volts to reach the motor. -------------------- |

I was wondering the same thing, as on an Autoart Cobra there are two separate resistors, one in series on each motor terminal and after the junction for the lights (which have their own resistor boards). And as an aside, 3 capacitors seems a bit excessive.
Edit: It would appear the resistor reduces the motor rpm - link (assuming of course it is a resistor and this article is right

The "resistor" is almost certainly a small inductor. Not sure why they fit it, could reduce interference slightly?
Assuming the Scalextric chip is up to driving this motor? I would do away with the inductor and fit a Ferrite Man. Rich -------------------- |

Thankyou for the help chaps...
This car is a Ninco Porsche 997, it was a gift, and on opening up the car, it has certainly been raced before, it has extra magnets all round, but it needs new rear tyres, they disintegrated when I tried to remove them, they had been previously glued on. This is going to sound a really silly question, but I have never opened up a Ninco before. I have stripped the car right back too the chassis, but how do you remove the guideblade from the eyelets please, as in with the wiring attached? I did a search and couldn't find anything, remember I am still a novice lol |

Looking inside the car it doesn't have the standard NC-5 motor, but the NC-6 crusher.
it needs a new set of front tyres also and a very good clean, going too do the oven trick on the chassis, but looking at it, the chassis looks already pretty flat. I already have an uprated diode chip too go into the car, thanks too Greg Looks like this has turned out to be a fantastic gift..... |

Hi Mark
They eyelets should just come out using your fingernail, maybe employ the use of a small flat screwdriver for leverage. If it isn't that simple then the previous owner may have glued them in - it's quite common to pick up used cars that have been 'fixed up' by an un-knowing owner. You say they glued the tyres so maybe they got carried away If they eyelets don't come out then you might need a new guide blade / wires too. Maybe somebody with more patience and dexterity than me could eventually free them but every time I have tried I've ruined the guide. Oops! Can you post a picture? Might help us identify what you're struggling with. The NC6 is a powerful motor. I don't know anything about SSD (oXigen user here), but if there are concerns about a chip coping with an NC5 then an NC6 will not make things any easier! Hope you get it sorted and enjoy your gift -------------------- Gary

Hey LMP,
I will get a picture up in a bit with the guide blade okay Hi Greg, how do you mean similarities with the Ninco, are you talking about how the chip is wired up here or the guide blade? |

Both, really .....
I normally leave the wires attached to the guide and just join them to the legs of the FM .... -------------------- Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder

Here you go,
this is what I am trying too remove in the pic, I want to remove the guide blade to be able to clean up the chassis, you can also see the extra magnets inserted, although the front one's near the guide have blu tack on them, I will remove and glue if necessary.

Easy enough ..... desdolder the wires off the motor and remove the guide with the wires attached.
Those grey lumps look suspiciously like lead to me ..... I was wondering about the motor because in the first picture it looked pink which would be an NC-5, now I see it is actually green and happy with it being identified as an NC-6. -------------------- Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder

Cheers Greg,
your a star everytime with bags of information for a keen novice.... Aah, sussed how to remove the ninco guide blade, the eyelets came out easily The braids will be replaced with new MB Slot one's. Chassis seems pretty flat, and very slightly warped at the rear. Looking forward to sorting out this car, and tuning, the motor does look like it has had a battering, but will see how she runs before going digital..... |
