Wonderful, Bernard. You're the James Bond of slot-cars, or perhaps one of his behind-the-scenes gurus.
Is the motor a Johnson 111 or copy? The British versions I'm familiar with had FT16 motors. Rob J |

I've had these variations (from East Germany) in the past, in fact I still have a spare interior for one, but the ones I have had also had a different motor,
![]() The mount is different and a Johnson 111 will not fit at all as it is too long. Also note the different tyres, unlike any others, UK or USSR QUOTE Is the motor a Johnson 111 or copy? The British versions I'm familiar with had FT16 motors Later production had Johnson 111 motors. |

Thats great Bernard,
I've got a Boxed Novo Set, which is complete all but one piece of curved track. (I'm still looking for that if anyone has one) Who'd have thought they'd have gone to the trouble of making a whole new style of track it what would appear to be a small run, then rip off something as easy to change as the box lid. Do the track parts look like any other brand from that era? and was the Russian version produced before or after the Scaley/Novo fuss? Interesting Mr Bond, the cold war comes to slot cars........... -------------------- They're only Toys cars after all!!!

Hi,the motor is the same as the Novo motors. The blade guides are also alot larger than the Novo guides. The track appears to be original not a copy, but who knows ? Ive looked & cant find anyone else who made this type of track. I dont know if this set came out after the Novo set or before. But the Novo set was made for export not internal use.Thats why the sets box & paper work is in English not Russian. The set wasnt a ripoff of the Novo set,it was an altered set made for the socialist countries. Remember these were not privately owned companies but state owned. So a collective would have decided to make the set using the earlier set as a guide for newer production models. The final out come would have been based on the money allotted for the sets & the planned production numbers. So if anything there was probably 2 factories working together not in competition.

HI
Looking forward to the 1/43rd set and wondering what else might be out there in terms of sets and cars from Russia and the East Block? Does anyone have more information along these lines? The list of who produced what keeps expanding!!! all my very best, Charles |

Glad to see it finally made it to you Bernard.
Thanks for sharing this - and for shaking up the Scalextric guys! Phil, you never cease to amaze me with all the stuff that's passed through your hands over the years... I just ran into an article in an early 80s British model car magazine, in which a Russian woman talks about her husband's slot racing hobby, and shows one of the totally scratch-built cars from his stable! Vodka anybody? Don |

Hi, Bernard, as author of the History of Scalextric books any chance of a quality image of the 'new' ryussian set you obtained for the next edition of my book ?
Plus can anyone else send me an image ? - there are details of the Nove GT racing set in my last book but I would like to extend the story to include the Russian sets. Were any other cars made or did they just continue to use or remake the original Scalextric provided mould tools. Roger. |
