ASTON MARTIN DBR9 GULF No.007

This Aston Martin joins Scalextric's growing stable of DBR9 liveries. The chassis has been updated to offer the DPR feature enabling easy upgrade to digital operation.

History: Gulf celebrated the 40th anniversary of its first win at Le Mans in the finest possible style, with an incredibly hard fought victory in LMGT1. The 007 Aston Martin of Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Karl Wendlinger and Andrea Piccini finished fourth, only missing out on a GT1 podium place by two laps. The race win went to the sister team Aston Martin Racing DBR9 car, number 009, driven by David Brabham, Darren Turner and Antonio Garcia. The leading GT1 contenders swapped places on pitstops in the opening hours but, by the evening, the blue and orange 009 car had established the slenderest of leads. This it held to the finish, coming home to victory by less than a lap at the end of 24 hours.

Features: High detail. Front and rear lights. Scalextric are the only manufacturer to produce this car. Magnatraction with alternate magnet positions for driver choice. Quick-change braid plate. Digital Plug ready chassis.

I can't believe nobody's replied yet! (Edit... Jon's got in there mid-rant!)

Looks lovely. But the wheels are the wrong colour. Surely to goodness if Prodrive is getting all anal about its bonnet vents someone in Banbury might have picked up on this.

It's an easy enough fix I guess, but why? Mr. Norman, I see you on this thread - why do we always have these sorts of colour things with Scalextric cars? To date - off the top of my head - I've had to make the following corrections:

Maserati 250F and Vanwall - covered the chrome with flat silver
Vanwalls Moss and Brooks - swapped a yellow nose band for white and vice versa
Morris Mini Cooper - painted on the chrome, painted the driver figures (now fixed on the Italian Jobs)
Ferrari 375 Gonzales - painted on gloves
Mercedes 300 SLR Fangio - painted on gloves
Mercedes 300 SLR Moss/Jenks - painted on gloves and less comedy beard
Ferrari 312T2 Lauda - painted helmet orange

All of these things are simple. Some things get done on some cars and not on others. James Hunt is one of the best driver figures ever, the Ferrari 156s were lovely and the NASCARs are spot on. Rectifying basic flaws are not jobs that I enjoy doing particularly and am staggered at another howler appearing.

If the intent was to model the car as it raced at LeMans, Scalextric also got the numbers wrong- they should be RED.

I suspect that this is intended instead to be the LeMans test livery because of the other differences. Hopefully 009 (if it is indeed released) will be in LM race day trim.

Image of the 007 car at Speedhunters here.

And another nice one from Automobiles Review here. And yet another good one here showing the wheel colour.

This model doesn't have the Le Mans logo above the number either. No drivers' names above the door.

With all the attention to detail, why are the wing mirrors on the model not right either - tear-drop not rectangular. There are 3 antennae on the roof and another thingy on the bonnet (airspeed inticator?).

After a little search, I found this:

Taken at the 2008 Le Mans preview in May 2008. Seems a good match for the Scalextric model.

not only the livery is suspect. after they have reworked the louvers for the lemans-low downforce version – they missed out the complete different front without flaps. the only really correct lemans DBR9 is the older redline version. what a mess. mad.gif

What a mess - is a bit strong.....
But it is confusing that they went to the trouble to remodel the bonnet and still left the front winglets in place.....

Its all very strange.

Will it hit the shops in november? hmmmmmmm

from a collectors point of view this is a mess – from a sloter point of view: if its fast you can't see the livery details ... wink.gif

EDIT: most things can easily fixed!

Hi

Indead when i heard the news about the winning 009 release I was thrilled but now I'm disappointed in this version.

I will not buy this one and wait (hopefully) for the 009 with the necessary corrections
