Tel,

a 4car PB won't work im afraid.

I think you are planning the big straight to be raised, so the 6carpb could be positioned so that it sits under that, to avoid the need for track cutting.
The wiring involved, is easily remade, should you ever want to.

I have to say, I LOVE this track! My current plan for a semi-permanent track is in this configuration, but smaller, with an L shape of 12 feet on the long side, and 3 or 4 on each of the ends (8 or 9 for the inside of the long leg of the L). I'm trying to reproduce your layout but more compactly for my planned table, including border space for more turns. The hardest part is keeping any kind of pit, since those take so much room. Any of you track designing master care to take a crack at that? I'm just not clever enough with the track designers I've tried yet to get this done. Of course, maybe it can't be done in the space I have? I realize everything will have to be shorter and with tighter turns, but I can't shake the feeling that it can be done, even if the pit is really short and can only support one car at a time?

Making one car can shorten the pit considerably, or you can use little things like I have, x-overs instead of an XLC. You could also have pit entry and exit on the width and turning alongside the length.

You could use elevation on the back straight to create space *under* the back straight for pit buildings.....

My boys and I like the idea of having the back straight raised up and putting some pit garages under that. After seeing some video of a single-lane pit being raced on with 6 cars, I've pretty much decided I HAVE to have a two-lane pit with at least one X or XLC. At the very least, it should cut pit hogging and pushing by half, if not more. Zipp PMed me a great version that fits my plan with an interesting idea for a two lane curved pit on the inside of the right side curve. I hadn't thought of doing that. I like the conservation of space he managed, but making a curved pit building will be quite a challenge for this non-modeler. ;-) After trying several track planners and the TrackPower demo, I've decided that sometimes free just doesn't cut it, and am going to get the full version of TrackPower. Hopefully I can use it to get what I want, especially with Zipp's interpretation to get me started. smile.gif

I'm looking forward to seeing your track come to life, Savage... so I can copy! wink.gif smile.gif thumbsup.gif

Yes Mark0, thats my intention, the pit garages sit under the back straight.
A bit more work done today, but nothing to show for it lol.
Thankfully with what I have done today now means I can get in there in the evenings and make some progress on the temporary layout for testing. smile.gif

Nice work Tel, the table looks very sturdy. I really like the track plan, I can imagine my Mosler putting in some very quick laps!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me know when you want a test session, even if we use scaly borders and armco temporarily. I've got loads if you need any.

Great to see you are making progress.

I agree with PSRRFH, get on the track and give it a good thrashing - also if you can get some mates around and have some races. When doing my layout, I thought I had the design right when I was racing by myself but when I got some friends around I realised I needed to change the layout so I did not have a 1 lane race track.

I got bored a took some of Zipps suggestions and had a good at creating a layout that would run without magnets quite well I think?

Thanks fella's !
Stuart, will do, I have a good amount of scaley borders for temporary use, but may need some more, I will let you know smile.gif
Right now I need to fix the elevated sections down, as they are just resting in place ATM, and work out the best way to fix my experimental table tennis net catch fences laugh.gif

Progress is slower than anticipated, too many other things taking my time atm mad.gif
Scaley borders as temporary measure and some time for some laps tonight biggrin.gif

A couple of drone cars with mags (speed set slow as they have the hairpin to negotiate) and me zipping round in my non mag Fly Porsche GT1-98 Racing.
I was putting 9.8 second laps in (non mag), I am still rusty after a long layoff, and that isn't my fastest car, so I reckon that track will be finding low 8's high 7's with my NSR Mosler, and some track paint. Maybe even faster when all is done.
Initially one lane was proving quicker, but after learning were I could push harder, I actually set the fastest lap in the lane I thought slowest wink.gif
I am thinking I maybe could use a bit more technical sections down past the pit lane, but trying to fit them without upsetting the rest will be tricky.

I will have to get some friends round for second opinions, and to if some competative racing changes anything or shows any weekness in design cool.gif

WOW Tel!,
I hadn’t looked in for a little while you said you hadn’t been making much progress when we last spoke! ohmy.gif

It’s looking Great love that long sweeping curve into back straight then that little kink just before the pits! It’s going to be FUN! The whole thing is a lot bigger than I had initially envisaged. I bet you’re spending a lot of time out there just testing of course! wink.gif

That back wall is just begging to have scenery painted on it.

I’ll be checking back more often from now on. thumbsup.gif

Bleep the kink is after the pits, leading onto a lightly banked R3 climbing onto the straight smile.gif
Yes the wall will get hardboard with scenery/sky painted on it eventually, the hardboard is sitting under the benches ready wink.gif
