> And we also wont mention your F32 car that beat me into second place in the 1978 cheddar open meet
> cheers tony I think that it was the HB chassised one that had had a soldering iron accident that, when corrected, allowed it to run one of Charlie's original AVS Shadow bodies with the minimum diameter front wheels (1/2"?, specially made by SCD in lilac nylon) although the wheelbase remained unchanged at 3", as required by the F32 rules. This was one of my cars that I found in a bin bag in the garages last year when I was clearing space for a friend's Miura (I spent half a day moving fridges and freezers only for the car to turn up and for us to find that the original/official 1969 Lambo data was out by 1m too long). I was almost more proud of the Mick Goddard F32 car that I (re)assembled and that got Trevor Tennant into the 1979(?) National Final (or did Trevor get it into the final?). Gaining performance with HB or BOG F32 chassis was easy because no two of them looked the same but the MG versions were so beautifully made that 'improvements' had to be very carefully hidden. Was Trevor the only ever F32 finalist to use an MG car? Cheers, Mike Doc. |

Returning to the music and slot racing theme, I seem to have overlooked Aussie post-punk noise guitar band Scattered Order - so here is the cover of their 1982 offering "Prat Culture", the opening track of which is
Slot Car Synth: ![]() and here they are performing it live in 2011 http://vimeo.com/29528094 You've got to love a band who issue a record with one side 45 rpm and the other 33 1/3 rpm. Loving their music might be more of a stretch, though according to one review: "The disc shows Scattered Order's fondness for the frequencies 2K and 6K while not forgetting the eternal 60 htz." The same review adds "By the time the LP was released this version of the band had imploded." No - really? |

Yep, the surf music group was called The Revells, and they put out a single record, which has been reissued on CD. I'm not aware of any video clip of this, that would have been on YouTube, but it's always possible. It wasn't a real group, just a bunch of studio musicians who got together (probably sponsored by Revell, directly or indirectly, as you say Tony), to cut this record and capitalize on the fad. I have seen a clip on YouTube of another 60s group doing one of their hits in a raceway, but havne't been able to find that again... Like tony says, if you do a search on here for slots in TV and film, you should find the references. Don The YouTube video clip of the 60's group is here: You Tube video The group was called "The Standells". They were a garage rock band from Los Angeles and had a hit song ("Dirty Water") in 1966. The video was taken at Revell Raceway in Los Angeles and shown on the Dick Clark show in 1967. Revell Raceway was the largest commercial slot car raceway in California in those days (17,000 sq. ft.). It was originally a supermarket and converted into Revell's showcase raceway. I raced there a few times in 1966/67. Keith Tanaka |

Thanks Keith,
Couldn't find that for the life of me! And, believe it or not, I remember "Dirty Water".... but I was 14 years old at the time, so memory still intact! Don |
