Several weeks down the track from subscribing, I find I am still without my magazine file. PMs to Jon eventually confirmed that the file was issued on the day of my subscription.

I have discovered, through some experimenting, that my mail server is rejecting the distribution email due to the size of the file attachment. The mail server issues a rejection notice to the sender about an hour after delivery is rejected. Things are pretty primitive down here and my mail service is limited to 15MB of attachments.

Just wondering if there is anyone else out there in the same boat as I? When last I spoke to Jon about it he was unaware of anyone else having a similar issue.

Cheers

You should try one of the many free sites on the Internet for transferring files that are too large for old and limited mail systems.
Instead of stretching the mail account with your ISP, you get a link for downloading the file at your own pace in civilised way.
I'm surprised that the organizers behind SRM don't already offer this service.

Some popular download go-betweeners for large files to try here:

I've had similar problems with my normal email address. I just had it redirected to a hotmail account and I now receive them ok.
I had to do the same with this site too, all emails from Slotforum have to go to the hotmail address.

I have no issues pay my money, get an email with a link, click on link and it opens up PDF which I download and save. The file is not attached to the email. The way its set up seems t owork for me, maybe its connected with settings on your pc or broadband supplier.

I've already suggested this as a solution to the problem. And I figure it would be a better way for the file to be distributed in future. Surely it would be kinder on the SRM's internet account as well.

Hmmm.... Now that just seems odd to me. Why would the file itself be emailed (or attempted as the case is) to some and only a download link to others? And more to the point, now that the problem has been identified, why can't the download link be emailed to me if others have received it that way? It'd solve my problem.

Apparently the file in question is 22MB.

Was really wondering if anyone else had had any issues in receiving their magazine, but had not reported anything to SRM yet, assuming that the distribution had not occurred or whatever.

I'm trying to help out here by identifying and resolving a problem here to ensure that such doesn't happen again. Meanwhile, of course, I'm still without my reading material. sad.gif

Good morning,

Thank you for pointing this problem out Ember, as per our PM's, I have been trying very hard to sort this out. If you check your email inbox, you will find an email from 'You Send It', with a link to download Issue 3 of the magazine. I hope this will mean you are able to read the latest issue!

If any more of our readership would like to recieve the magazine in this way, please drop me a PM, or an email,
Kind Regards
Jon

Hi Jon. Thanks for the email link. I now have my copy of Issue 3 downloading.

Was simply trying to ascertain if anyone else had had the same problem as I. I'm sure I am not the only one with a 15MB restriction on email. Figure our Kiwi brethren may be in the same boat. Among others in the less fortunate southern hemisphere of the world.

And my question still stands Has anyone else been unable to receive the file via email?

Hi Ember - almost everyone who uses email account provided with their local ISP will have a limit on the size of the attachment file. For example, mine is at 10MB while other ISPs might have this at 15MB or even higher. Most people including myself have stopped using email account of our current ISP as some people change their ISP every year (to find a better deal/package) so they end up using gmail, hotmail or other POP3 providers which have more than 20MB limit on attachments.

Strangely enough, I gave up using Hotmail and the like five years (or more) ago because the email attachment limit was less than my ISPs. It would seem they've finally caught up. Plus the fact that I have received a lot of questionable spam from hotmail and gmail accounts of folks that I know of who run scrupulously 'clean' computers, ie) it is not due to viral/trojan/open backdoor contamination or whatever. I tend not to trust free stuff as one always finishes up paying somewhere along the line, and usually quite dearly.

Nothing is infinite! Except: Gmail.

My experience with Gmail is that there are no file size restrictions (or I haven't reached them), and the spam filter is excellent.

Lest this appear to be an endorsement for Gmail, I'm also pretty sure that Google now knows everything about me including my blood type. Thank goodness I've (mostly) kept my attentions focused on slot cars and not on some of the other subjects that I hear (from very unreliable sources of course) are rather popular on the internet.

Cheers,

Mark
