Mel - I do not totally agree, since David Sykes markets his shell as a Ferrari 555 Supersqualo. Not as a Ferrari 553 Squalo as you mention.

The only F553 Squalo shell known to me is the one from Pattos.

But there might be other opinions on this out there?

Dammit Mel smile.gif - your remarks on the Squalo / Supersqualo challange did trick my a lot, so I made some additional research.

Please compare the two shells from RTR Cartrix and David Sykes. The small side fins and the central stripe on the bonnet of the resin shell were made by me, but especially the louvres on the front bonnet - six on the left, one on the right - proves to me, that they are both F555 Supersqualos.

The F555 Supersqualo was a tiny car with a short wheel base, so to me the Cartrix car is just oversized.

For comparison please take a look at the Pattos Place shell of a F553 Squalo far right on the photo.

But do not get me wrong. This is just my opinion. I would like to hear the verdict from the real specialists out there.

Gentlemen?

Dave - no worries. Nobody blames you smile.gif On the contrary, I am just glad to have your fine shells to challange me.

Hopefully one day my skills will do them justice.

Cheers, Holger

Sorry to bother you once more.

Unfortunately I do not have a scanner at hand, but please look into the splendid book of Mr. Paul Parker: "Formula 1 in camera 1950-59" on page 106 + 108. Both pages are sporting coloured photos of Mike Hawthorn´s Ferrari 553 Squalo #38 from the Spanish GP 1954 (which Mr. Hawthorn won - the one and only GP victory for a F553 Squalo).

Both pictures clearly shows, that the F553 Squalo had "countless" of louvres on both sides of the front bonnet (like the above Pattos shell).

This is enough proof for me, that Dave Sykes´ shell represent the later F555 Supersqualo with 1 + 6 louvres.
