What a pity more clubs don't promote this kind of thing instead of the incessant R-T-R stuff.

A lot of people build this sort of thing, but mainly use them at home because their local club is obsessed with Scalextric, NSR, etc.

Where are all these Mk 3 Zodiacs coming from??

The NERCS clubs in the Newcastle area run retro saloons and the Colchester club run retro sports and saloons in their club seasons so it is growing slowly.

I like racing Slot it cars as much as the next person but you don't get anything like the same pleasure that you get from racing a self built car.

The Zodiacs in those pictures are OCAR shells but there are a couple of original Airfix Zodiacs in the club as well, as you know these are getting harder to find these days unless you want to pay quite a bit for them.

Thanks, David.
Unfortunately NERCS is no more, mainly because of the Slotit mob taking over.

One step forward, two back.

Ironic then, that the publicly given reason for the rapid demise of NERCS was an disagreement on ballasting rules for a class of PCS32-chassised scratch built historic saloon cars....

David,

You can easily tell it's a Essex club - look at the numbers of Escorts!

Oy!! My car was a Panhard Dyna Z I'll have you know!

Talking of Escorts, I tried to get an XR3i class going last year, but it was never popular.

Joel

PS: How on earth do you closed a club for such a banal reason? It's not as if someone had goosed the Queen Mother or anything (Essex joke guys)

I was told it was the speed-at-all-costs merchants that caused too much hassle.
I don't see the PCS brigade being describable under those terms. And how is a PCS chassis scratchbuilding?

For whatever reason (and they all sound lame to me) it's gone which is a crying shame as it sounded like such a nice place to go for anybody up the Tyne way.

To help avoid any further misunderstandings, I would just like to clarify that ballast rules and the PCS chassis had nothing to do with the closure of NERCS. There has not (to my knowledge) been a publicly given reason for the clubs closure and at no time has the class in question ever been referred to as ‘PCS32-chassied scratchbuilt historic saloon cars…’

The class in question was devised in 2011 with the intention of introducing club members to the concept of building their own cars using the PCS chassis as basis. Known as the ‘Flat Cap Trophy for Classic Saloon Cars’, the series will now form part of Tyneside Slot Car Clubs (TSCC) 2012 calendar.

It is an Essex thing Coop with the club being just a few miles from Dagenham and Boreham as well as the research centre at Dunton but it is also an age thing, club members of a certain age love the Escort and the slightly older members are more keen on the Anglia and Lotus Cortina.

Thanks for putting the record straight Dave about NERCS and I hope the Flat Cap class at TSCC is successful.

Firstly i seriously doubt that any clubs are obsessed with Scalextric.
Secondly, not everyone has the skill or even the time to "scratch build".
There is nothing wrong with either type of racing but i don't hear any RTR racers knocking your obsession. smile.gif

Great looking entry for this class. I wondered if someone could please identify the blue car in the top left corner?

Alan; the Essex Escort theme has also spread to the North East. Pete Shepherd has kindly sent a Mk1 to take part in our similar Flat Cap series to race by proxy.

Cheers,
Dave

Well that looks very much like a Panhard to me and I would guess it must be Joel's smile.gif

Dave

I'm really sorry that time ran out for me to get a car prepared for your TSCC "Flat Cap" class, As you know I was fully intending to send a proxy car to you.

I'll build one eventually and send it for a late season run or next year if that's ok.

Dave, I would be happy to enter the Panhard in a "Beret and Breadstick" proxy if you have one in the future.

Joel

PS: Come to think of it, perhaps I should organize that one.
PPS: Let me know if you want to track a Panhard down.
