Hi Don,its the 2nd generation box,its the box which has cars with both the short & long shaft gray can motors. But not the 1st generation boxes which had the long shaft red motor with the white nylon chassis. Thanks,Bernard

Bernard, I think that Don was more concerned about the box's illustration on its top... and they are the same for both the first four early kit versions, aren't they?

-1/ "clear" chassis and red long-shaft Mabuchi can motor
-2/ "clear", then gray chassis with Kako "KMK" Mabuchi motor with side magnet pockets and "hose" drive shaft
-3/ gray chassis with long-shaft Mabuchi "15R" gray motor
-4/ gray chassis with short-shaft Mabuchi "15R" gray motor

All in the same box with the Ferrari TR and D-type Jag and only a variation of stock number after Cosmo-Dowst purchased the Strombeck-Becker's company assets.

Then the boxes become all white and blue, and the chassis are of a newer design, now black plastic with red Mabuchi "R15" motors, then the same black chassis with Igarashi open-frame motors.

Is that correct? wink.gif

Here are photos of the 2 different boxes used in the early kits with motors. I dont have any kits with kako motors. Only the 1st long shaft red can motors & the long & short shaft grey can motors kits. This applies only to the early kits with motors included, the early kits that came without the motors are quite different. Bernard

No, is as Bernard says, namely following Philippe's list above:
QUOTE
1/ "clear" chassis and red long-shaft Mabuchi can motor

These came with these specific kit boxes

QUOTE
-2/ gray chassis with Kako "KMK" Mabuchi motor with side magnet pockets and "hose" drive shaft

Jag only. No kit box, these were set cars, sold also as cheap RTRs, with no clear parts, in small boxes already shown in this thread.

QUOTE
-3/ gray chassis with long-shaft Mabuchi "15R" gray motor

'61 cars, their kit versions came all (Maserati,D-Jag and Testa Rosa) in a box with the lid shown by Bernard above. However, the inner tray was different, with some parts placed in slots and other in a plastic bag.

QUOTE
-4/ gray chassis with short-shaft Mabuchi "15R" gray motor

These are '62 cars, with no deep cockpit or separate driver. They usually came in the usual blue/white boxes, but the kit shown above by Bernard seems to be an exception: it clearly is a '62 car, the inner of the box looks as the earliest (pre styrofoam bottom) '62 kits, but the box lid is the one used in 1961. Maybe a transition example?

Regarding the Maserati Sports Ilustrated kits ('61)

,

came with clear windscreenat (center of the second picture). Another example is pictured in Philippe's book.

Best,

Eduardo

PS. Saw Bernard's last post while writting this one: there are shown a '60 box lid plus a complete '61 kit box as I tried to describe above.
