Has anyone set up that car chipping database?
Would be helpful to have a "how to guide" for every car. Maybe a new sticky forum thread could be made for each car :-) |

Hi nwbands,
the chipping database will be here Soon! Drummer is on it. I'm sure if you read trough some of the earlier posts there are photos etc on how to do it but if you stuck with one give me a shout, allways willing to help out You could also consider adding your location to your profile it just makes life easier for other users to know where you are from, how to do that is here -------------------- Ian B

nwbands,
Nope I haven't done that one and looking through the list it's not on there either, "tvwino" chipped the QUOTE Corvette Le Mans safety car with lights - F1 chip in front of motor, reasonably straight forward Go for it can't be too hard but remember we like Pictures on here you could even do your own "how to" regards -------------------- Ian B

Hi All,
I think a database is a great idea... i just spent the better part of the weekend chipping cars (no, not at the wall) All these work fine: F1 : Renault, BMW and Ferrari Mercedes CLK, Some trouble with the Red Opel V8 Coupe (Sport Bild): While the car runs fine (albeit slower than before Now, you may think, OK maybe it's the sensor - IT's not. All other cars work fine. originally chipped and chipped by me... So HOW can the Opel's IR emitter work on teh start/finish sensors and NOT on the lane change? Any help would be much appreciated! Arh Ruben,
I have been there a few times, I don't know the real reason but I have managed to find a solution that has worked for me; A ensure the sensor track is flat and clean (I vacuum mine!) B ensure the LED is is at 90% to the chassis though it can point slightly forward. The LC has a different transmission to the powerbase in fact you can move the LED out of sight of the powerbase and it still picks it up! Where as the LC needs that tranmission to force the change this is a somewhat weaker signal? On occasions I have totally removed the whole chip put it in another car (in which it has worked fine) then fitted a different chip in the original car, and thats worked fine? Its a mystery! Hope you get it sorted good luck Ian -------------------- Ian B

QUOTE (Rubenio @ 9 Jan 2006, 16:55) Depends on how you are testing. If it is the only car on the track, the PB may well be remembering the last car id. As mentioned elsewhere, the PB lap counter is two stage - detect car id, then record time (remember the two holes in each lane). Once the PB has detected an ID, it remembers it for that lane, until it detects another car. This is why cars can get bad lap counts when you go round the track in the wrong direction. This is likely to be why the PB seems to work whilst the LC does not. Ian. -------------------- "Aerodynamics is for those who cannot manufacture good engines"

Classic F1 is my game
Just finished chipping a Fangio Maserati, Moss Vanwall and the Hill Sharknose, there's not much room in those kiddies believe me. I havn't tried my Cooper yet because that's even tighter. I've seen a magazine article where a guy chipped the cooper but you could see the chip in the cockpit and I don't find that acceptable so I'm still trying to work out if i can do it, mind you with the engine sticking out of Jacks chest it's not the best looking cockpit anyway. I found the Vanwall quite easy. (the chip will go down the side of the engine as long as you insulate it with some tape. It had to go in the tail of the Maserati which meant lengthening all but the wires to the braids and removing some of the side cockpit detail ( but you can hardly see it when it'a all back together) and seperating the tail section from the rest of the body so it stays in place when the body is removed. With the Phill Hill car I had to remove the cockpit floor pan, and the left side inner panel then the chip would fit in at a strange angle next to Phills legs with a tiny bit shaved of the end (of the chip) the Ferrari and Vanwall still handle pretty much as before due to the central chip positions but the Maserati hangs it's tail out in spectacular fashion now and I love it. I'm thinking of re-doing the Vanwall to get the same authentic fifties effect |

The Ford Focus Police car can run on your digital set with out putting a chip in. It has some kind of bridge recrectifier the circuit from what i can make out (you can see an arrangement of diodes). This allows it to run on the SSD by its self, yes that means you can't drive it it will just run round the track by its self at a steady speed with sirens and lights going. It should stick to your track ok unless you have long straights going into R1 hairpins, it has no challenger like intelligence but makers a fun pace car. shaunbmx |

@yorkshire_keith
Good to hear you've done the F1 classics, Mine are still in the boxes, but looking at the Cooper, I thought perhaps deepening the chest cavity, and removing the drivers/seat piece that tucks into the body, would allow the chip to sit along top of the motor, driver may tilt fwd to accommodate... Havent tried it but this was the only way I could conceive of doing it. Good luck, let us know how you get on. This post has been edited by drummer: 10 Jan 2006, 12:08 -------------------- ![]() |

Hi this is my first posting here.
I converted 3 Scalextric Speed 12's from my collection as I wanted to create a level playing field for racing with my 2 mates (plus I have lots of liveires/bodies to swap) Cars worked OK (first time!) but on extended racing we noticed that they ran rather hot. This is all down to the easyfit bulb system on the cars and one car was so hot that it actually melted around the bulb assembly a little bit making the bulb difficult to remove. We run them now without lights which is a shame as the speed 12 looks great with them on! Looking forward to the new pit lane sections. |

Do you have a pic of the inside relating to the lights? I had the same issue on my le mans cars, I ended up wiring them in parallel to drop the power going through them, maybe we can suggest somthing similar for these.
Or if you used the Saloon chip you can power the lights from the chip. Either way welcome to the forum! |

Hi - there is only a single bulb arrangement on the Speed 12's, light pipes take the light front and back. Might be a project for the future.

Could you put in a super bright yellow or white 3mm LED and dropping resistor instead (or a 5mm LED if it will fit)? This would solve the heating problem. -------------------- "Aerodynamics is for those who cannot manufacture good engines"

Is it possible to convert SCX cars to SSD?
I am thinking of buying a (SCX 61620) Fiesta. However I want this to work on SSD. What are the implication in terms of chipping and guide. Cheers |
