i have just watched the movie death race......i think it would b cool to have a track set up with some kind of apocoliptic style scenery and details. but i need some ideas of what cars ppl would use and what kind of armour defenses etc the cars would have. think it would b best on a digi track because u can have cars on same track chasing each other and removing them with a wee nudge now and again to get in front lol. any ideas would b welcome cheers guys.

scalextric did some pick-up trucks which had a spring flip over mechanism underneath, so when you hit the rear bumper they flipped over off the track.
Add a digi chip and away you go! (why can't the manufactuers come up with great ideas like these?) -------------------- Slot car scrap yard Does your car carry a doner card? |

You could try and recreate Frank's Mustang? I would say that big cars would be better for this sort of thing so I would use things like scaley's Range Rover, or a Hummer (or any of the Raid cars). Old/new muscle cars might be good - I think one of the cars in death race is a camaro like the one that scalextric is bringing out later in the year. I also think I saw an old 911 in there somewhere?
Just suggestions.. AM -------------------- "And so you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further. With your mind power, your determination, your instinct, and the experience as well, you can fly very high" - Ayrton Senna

Hi guys sorry to bring this up again,
bigross, if you want to make Frank's mustang i have found a good site for reference photo's; death race you might have already found it but i thought it might be worth posting anyway. It also has a list of all the other cars (the one i thought was a camaro was actually an XJS!) have you started on your mustang yet? just wondered, me and my brother had a go with 2 old mercs but they didnt turn out too good! Cheers AM -------------------- "And so you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further. This takes me back about 20 years when some buddies decided to reposition my grandstand at the end of a fast straight and took turns to see how many people they could wipe out.... Luckily cars back then didn't have all the fine details of today's cars so no real harm done....

This reminds me of that old movie Death race 2000 with Sylvester Stallone I thought it was that movie with Sylvester, aswell. I've said it on other threads aswell that it would be nice to have a button on the digital controllers to activate stuff like beebing the horn blinking the lights, fire small lasers(infrared) that could activate stuff on opponents cars, Flip them over, make parts fall off, force them into taking the next exit, activate your hydrollic shocks and do tht car jumping thing at the stoplight:-) etc.etc.etc In the movie Death race 2000, theres a scene where they place all the old from a nursing home at the road side to be run over however if my memory serves me right one of the racers maby Sly takes a detour and knocks over all audience instead, to score more points :-) just to say that track pieces like the pitstop track can be used differently and there could be obejcts with sensors so that you could hit stuf with your car sliding or doing succesfully 360'ties This infact would attract alot of the playstation generation aswell. Whenever I have kids(or playfull and creative adults) visiting they allways get that look in their eyes an goes wow "I'm gonna make it fly there" or "Will it crash there" you know the dramatic side of racing :-) Allso they wan't me to use the old Classic Loop da loop or the flying leap, again because of the arcade like action. So yes give us some arcade action in the form of "Mad Max the ultimate roadfight" or "DeathRace" And even when racing seriously, I still have that grin on my face when accidents happends because it looks cool :-) -------------------- ]--"If there's smoke there must be a fire, if there's a fire lets have a bar'b'cue"--[

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks along these lines. Even before digital I was thinking of an extra button the would fire a light beam forwards for hit a photo cell on the back of a car in front, and trigger a spring or flipper mechanism. But this idea wasn't triggered by the new 'Death Race' film. Oh no. Think of a company who make wargames miniatures and sounds like 'Gay Sweat Shop'.
Give up? Well it was 'Games Workshop' how made a 'Mad Max' style game called 'Dark Future'. A turn based, tabletop game for two or more players. It was a further reworking of Steve Jacksons' 'Car Wars'. The great thing about this game was that it's scale meant that you could use Matchbox / Hotwheels cars as your models, with the addition of some plastic weapons and a bit of paint. Some examples below: ![]() Taken form an article in an old copy of White Dwarf, the Games Workshop house magazine. ![]() Illustrations from White Dwarf of some different liveries. Notice the most standard type of car, the 'Interceptor' is based on the Le Mans style Porsche 962. For anyone who is mildly interested, here is a link to the only on-line sight still dealing with the game. Future Highways Hope this little diatribe was of interest to some of you. NUTS!!! No way.... alot of fun, and a gameplay that will attract a new generation of slotters. On another note, since the cars does not have to resemble real models, no lisence or royalty fee has to be paid to the automotive industry, hence you can make very cheap cars( it's not rocket sience you know) -------------------- ]--"If there's smoke there must be a fire, if there's a fire lets have a bar'b'cue"--[

Those crash and bash scaley cars oculd be a good base- glue foam to the body sections and cut it to the desired shape. Then paint it how you want, and it's bodywork that falls off in crashes

being a fan of both versions of the movie i think recreating the old 1 would be cooler. They all raced in 2 seater cars made out of balsa wood apparently, i dont think they would be too much work to use a standard car base and sculpt a body out of hard styrene, it would be very durable for purposely crashing.
another idea to re-create the modern movie would be to use plasticard 'armour plates', put some fine mesh over the windscreens, add bullet holes by lighting gauging with a 1mm drill etc. and a dark re-paint with dirt and rust added to finish the effect. I used to make a lot of games workshop gorkamorka vehicles like this by converting regular 1:43 or 1:32 models and sticking an ork in to drive it. example 1:35 sturmtiger ![]() i know its not a car but the principles have been applied. note the rivets make it look much more amatuer, they are made by using a small hole punch on a sheet of plasticard -------------------- ++++
Chances are I've written this message using my mobile blackberry. If this is the case then what is written above might be full of spelling errors, random letters, badly laid out and generally a load of old rubbish - so no different from usual then :) Tom |
