Ok , here are my 3 inline Gar Vic cars - The Lunar , Sonic Needle and The Ocelot !
My question - why the double shafts and double pinions on all these models ? You
can see the shafts and pinions through the front windscreens of both the Sonic Needle
and The Ocelot . The Lunar has the same setup ! The driving pinion is larger then the
opposite non functioning pinion .

All have the Gar Vic pink motor , and all are 36D Mabuchi motors !

Is it something to do to balance the motor , or to use on a larger track , or to use as a spare ,
or they had so many pinions in the factory and gave them away ? Or none of the above !
Such a strange setup ! Zig

Only reason I can see would be to give you alternative gear ratios for different tracks, just turn the motor around. This is confirmed in a previous thread ''History of the Worlds Most Priceless Thingie''

Yep, that's the reason I remember from their ads at the time - assuming a lot of people were scared of changing pinions, that gave them a way of changing ratios with just a screwdriver - and a lot of work!

Thanks Tony and Don . Yeah , I guess that was the idea behind the double shaft and the smaller pinion on the opposite side of the motor ! There is a heap of extra wire to do the reverse mounting of the motor ! My concern has always been , this extra wire could be caught by the spinning pinion , and do some damage , but has never happened ! I must admit , those pink Gar Vic motors are a great wind - all perform very well ! Perhaps not as good as the red Monogram 36Ds for braking , but not far behind ! Which leads me to - "Which is the hotter Gar Vic motor - the pink or the grey 36D ?" I just tested the Gar Vic cars on my small Carrera track , and the pink and grey motors are very similar ! Perhaps I need a longer track to determine which is quicker 1 Zig
