just catching up after a few days "off the grid" (teach me to check out if a cheap hotel has wifi BEFORE I book) and im amazed that no one seems to have mentioned jezza-gate , or have I been in a 3 day coma and dreamt it all? im not really bothered about all the who did what to who but I as a licence fee payer , I am pretty humpty that the bbc have shelved the last 3 episodes of TG!

This is the Pit-Lane ............

Some names that have been put forward as replacements ...... Eddie Izzard ......... Julian Clarey.

Both of whom are much more humorous and infinitely more witty ......

you just out did them both!

It's become a formula and sure it can be fun, but it may well be time to hit the refresh button. In Canada we have been through a period where personalities in the media acted as though they had entitlement above their employers and the rest of us ...when athletes, stars in any endeavour try to be greater than the sport..sooner or later the thing ends badly.

QUOTE The Pit Lane
An area for topics that don't fit elsewhere.

I think your all safe.

Its my favourite BBC show by a long way, its also clearly the BBC's most successful and internationally popular show. I will be sad when it ends, because whatever happens it will end some day!

I suspect if the BBC part ways with Clarkson, all three of them will pop up on ITV or Sky with the same show but a new name.

yes , the show is tired and a bit same old same old but the country needs Clarkson to keep flapping his dopey old gob so we don't end up drowning under the soppy pc brigade!!!

All TV shows are formulaic, it's just taken you 9,000,000 episodes and repeats to discover that TG is no different .....

#13 ·
...... and, whats more, there are also 9,000,000 million bicycles in Bejing ....

#15 ·
yeah , but he is smart enough to know that the show he bought for a tin of sardines and and empty yoghurt pot and then sold to the bbc for umpteen millions is rendered worthless if they give him the elbow! who is the fool there?! you cant knock a man who is prepared to stand up and call a spade a spade in these soft a$$ days. (well you can but it wont earn my respect!) I'm going to have to turn the central heating off in a mo at this rate.

I've got a recording somewhere of a pre-Jezza era Top Gear where they had an article on slot racing - it was done by an old rally navigator Tony Mason (he who used to sit beside Roger Clark)

he was better at reading pace notes than autocue.

Absolutely.

Bring back Clarkson and, while they're at it, make him Prime Minister too.

Well, I think you need to once you discover the origin of the phrase you so ingeniously portray him with ......

To "call a spade a spade" is a figure of speech which explicitly calls out something as it is, by its right name. The implication is not to lie about what something is and instead to speak honestly and directly about a topic, specifically topics that others may avoid speaking about due to their sensitivity, unpleasant, or embarrassing nature.[1]

Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable (1913) defines it as:

To be outspoken, blunt, even to the point of rudeness; to call things by their proper names without any "beating about the bush".

sums him up perfectly I think?

marmite on legs.

It has changed it's meaning in the last couple of decades, so it is not used much in the USA.

Careful though, this topic is already on the verge of having nothing to do with slot related information and could be shut down if we move to far from talking about the new JC.
