Slot Racing Map of the UK, Google map with locations of slot car racing clubs Options

I wonder if it might be interesting to have a map of the UK showing all the slot car racing clubs, for newcomers or returners to find the nearest racing venue, and to provide an easy way for competitors to find their way to events at other clubs.

It turns out that it's easy to do on Google Maps. So I've created a map, Slot Racing UK, which shows my local Wellingborough club as an example. If you click on the placemark it shows details of the club - I've added the club name, address, contact phone number, opening times and the website URL.

I haven't added any other club addresses, but you can add your own details, or PM me with a request to do it for you.

To add location details to the map, click the 'Edit' button next to 'Collaborate' on the left-hand window,. That opens a little pop-up window on the map itself. You can then drag a placemark to your club's location (I can't figure a way to enter the postcode to automatically position a placemark - can someone tell me how to do this?) and click on it to add details.

What do you think? Would this be useful?

Could the map be saved some how in the clubs section so it was right at the top - like a sticky?

Yes Gray, I was thinking of that - pinned or something. Or it can be embedded in a page, such as on the Wellingborough site here.

Most of these are individuals, not clubs, I think. I did think we could use different coloured pins on a map to differentiate, say, Scalex clubs, BSCRA clubs, retailers, and maybe individuals. But maybe there's a 'walk before you run' stage here - if we could get all the clubs that SF, BSCRA and NSCC list on the same map that would be a great start.

Not kncking it as its a great idea - but i think the Gainsborough and Lincoln marker is a little out!! Now i know i travel quite a distance to get there, but not quite that far!!

Yellabelly - thanks, Ian (Bleep) PM'd me. There's more than one Gainsborough - I did think it was a little way from Lincoln! I put in the full address but Google Maps is not entirely bug-free yet. I tried to amend it this morning but it wouldn't play. I'll give it a go this evening.

Any other clubs want to get on the map, post or PM me, and I'll try to get them done this evening.
