Hi guys.

I'm looking at building a Mini Clubman for the Wolves 70's touring car event and being a Mini fan I wanted to use this shell. (picture from Pendle slot racing)

My worry comes from knowing how short a Scalextric mini is and as this is going to be no bigger, if not slightly smaller I don;t know what chassis to use. I would like to use a Penelope Pitlane chassis but being new to resin cars and metal chassis I don't know what to do. Also, is it possible to fit some slot.it or NSR GT wheels under it or will I need slimline wheels?

Thanks in advance for any advice, much appreciated.

That is a nice shell. With something this small I would be thinking of using something from the world of 1/43
The PP Clubman chassis will probably give you the wheelbase but getting the right wheels under it will be tricky.
Again the PP 13 rims and tires could be your best bet.

And you know the advantage the Clubman body shape has over the bellnose....

On Wednesday I saw the new 1/43rd chassis from Tecno-Slot, and yesterday found in advert on the spanish slot mag. Seems just right for the little car Gerald.

How about using the Scalextric new classic Mini chassis, I bought one from Ebay and was thinking of getting this shell. I've got it up and running with Scalextric wheels just wonder if they will look ok in the wheel arches on this shell. happy.gif

Thanks guys. Unfortunately it's got to be competitive so on our track that rules out the use of 1/43rd sized chassis or anything from Scalextric.

Munter, I checked the measurements of my Scalextric clubman and the PP clubman chassis will fit under there with ease. I can't imagine the resin shell would be too different. (hopefully!)
Also, the wheels you mention, if I'm looking at the right ones are the same diameter and width of the wheels on the scalextric clubman so these should be ok to use without forsaking too much of the grip I know from wider GT style tyres.

Again, thanks for the help guys. If I ever get round to building one of these I'll be sure to post some pictures.

you'll pack it all in under there. mine (originally a scaley 1275gt shell) would never be "competitive" but fun none the less.

Stoner, those rears are destroyed 1:32 BRM rims. The BBS mesh got broken out by the previous owner and they seemed to be the right size for the Mini.

Peter, what chassis did you use to get the mini to be that low? I'm trying to make a custom mini, but I think the original chassis is almost impossible to modify correctly.

I went with a full home-brew job. I figured it was the only way it was going as low as possible on the wheels that I had to hand. I knew when I had gone as low as I could when the tyres were fouling on the underside of the bonnet....happy days!!

I think if you did try and stick with the standard chassis , you would end up with so little left that it would be easier to start from fresh in the first place. with hindsight though I would probably go with a pcs chassis (or similar) but I really wanted a crack at building my own.
