Hi everybody peeps ......

I have added a refinement to the use of a F1 DPR chipset. Following on from my last Mini chipping (post #1002), I have removed the socket for the wiring loom and soldered the pickup and motor wires directly to the PCB.

Attached File  Mini_00.jpg ( 39.72K ) Number of downloads: 79

The original method.

Attached File  Mini_05a.jpg ( 179.31K ) Number of downloads: 93

New improved method.

As you can see, the second version is more compact and much tidier which allows fitting into even smaller spaces.

All I need now is to work out how to get it flashed with InCar-Pro firmware question.gif

This one has been done before but I was keen to try out my F1 DPR chips before I have a go at my precious Lotus 49ers ....... sad.gif

Attached File  Eagle_Westlake_01.jpg ( 109.11K ) Number of downloads: 89

A slight modification to the wiring layout

Attached File  Eagle_Westlake_02.jpg ( 99.61K ) Number of downloads: 104

Measuring up to fit the pickups and the ferrite men

Attached File  Eagle_Westlake_03.jpg ( 95.86K ) Number of downloads: 117

Ready for testing on a digital track and lane changer

Attached File  Eagle_Westlake_04.jpg ( 119.79K ) Number of downloads: 60

All done and Dan is non the wiser .....

Would have loved to have flashed the chip to InCar-PRO.

OK ...... so now it's Jo Siffert's turn next.

Attached File  Lotus_49___01.jpg ( 165.26K ) Number of downloads: 64

Strange one this, the bottom drops out of the car. As you can see my test chip fits rather nicely. No modifications were needed and the chip seemed to click into place.

Attached File  Lotus_49___02.jpg ( 125.39K ) Number of downloads: 62

Here I am measuring the length of the lane change LED.

Attached File  Lotus_49___03.jpg ( 84.15K ) Number of downloads: 84

The LC has been soldered in and the pickups are being measured. This time, I intend to solder the ferrite man directly to the chip. The exposed legs will be covered with heatshrink.

Attached File  Lotus_49___04.jpg ( 93.67K ) Number of downloads: 82

Pickup now installed and the motor wires have been added so that I can test the whole ensemble before proceeding further. This worked so I decided not to fit the ferrite man to the motor but I did shorten the Red & Black wires for neatness. The only slight difficulty was prising the steering wheel out of Jo's hands.

Attached File  Lotus_49___06.jpg ( 89.72K ) Number of downloads: 40

All done.

Surprisingly, there was more room inside the Lotus than the Eagle and it was a much easier job ............ the question now is do I chip the Graham Hill cars???

The next one up will be the Cooper Climax but not for a while yet.

Great pictorials, Greg! These will be invaluable if I ever get a set myself. Did you have to "cut the butts" on either of the drivers for those?
Also, would you be willing to share with us how you removed the DPR connector? I've tried that myself, but couldn't get it off. Do you need a special iron tip, or a heat gun?

Dan did go on a severe weight loss program lmfao.gif whereas Jo was quite happy as he was wink.gif

I used my new toy to remove the connector from the PCB.

Now that looks interesting...
Whats the quality like?
Is the air gun built into the iron?

This is a photo of how to chip the car using the in-car single seater chip. The photo is from Ernie Mosetti - the car's designer.

Scalextric Porsche RS Spyder - Saloon Chip:

This had to be done with an Incar-PRO chipset - the lighting effects are brilliant.

[attachment=9304:Porsche_Saloon_01.jpg]
A blank DPR plate has had the plug removed and a 3mm hole drilled to line up with the LED on a Saloon chip.

[attachment=9305:Porsche_Saloon_02.jpg]
The LED was removed from it's board on the flying lead and soldered directly to the PCB.

[attachment=9306:Porsche_Saloon_03.jpg]
The front lights were joined together and soldered to the board. The rear lights were re-wired to reach and the chip was sat on a bed of hot glue.
The wires pointing away from the chip are attached to a socket for firmware flashing, this tucks tidily alongside the cockpit side.

Since I have completed this, I have also chipped the Lola-Aston Martin, a Peugeot 908 and two Audi R10s. Just need to chip another Pug 908 and two more Spyders to finish my set.

Slot.It Ford MKII Le Mans 1966

As I want to equip this car with front, rear and brake lights with Incar Pro, I selected a Salextric saloon chip to convert to digital.
The only place for this chip is right in front of the motor. Two issues occured when implementing the chip:
1. The chip is 2mm too high
2. The ferrite man is too big to sit over the motor

1)In order to lower the chip, I had to cut a bit of plastic from the motor holder.

Yellow marks - 3 mm cut in the bars to hold the chip.
Red marks - lower the plastic bar by 2mm.
If the yellow marked cuts are narrow enough, the board will sit there without any hot glue.
I secured the chip with a small drop of hot glue. I also put an insulating tape on the side of the motor, to make sure not parts of the chip can touch the metallic surface of the motor.
After that the saloon chip fits nicely.

2) I moved the ferrite man behind the motor because it is too big to sit above the motor

Finalized interior, InCarPro loaded but so far no lights attached:

This car has been chipped before by the ubiquitous Savage with an F1 chip. This car is a little different in that it has full working lights that restricts the available space to virtually nothing.

The legendary F1 DPR chip was modified as per my earlier post for the Mini.
[attachment=9437:Fly_BMW_3.jpg]
To the right of the car is an ordinary F1 DPR for comparison.

Fly Alfa Romeo TZ2 F1 Chip

Very similar to chipping 105 series GTAm/GTAj cars, as shown in an earlier post by Savage, however the F1 chip is mounted flat in the boot or trunk area after trimming the height of the two longitudinal bars on top of the chassis by a mm or so. All wires bar the LED ones need extension. Motor wires run over the rear axle, LED and guide wires are glued to the chassis beneath the rear axle. Guide and motor wires should be glued along the edges of the car before assembly, as there is no room for them in the groove btw. the front seats that fits over the prop shaft.

/Christian
