Date: 08-05-06:

Usually we race on plastic with our 1/32's and on wood with the 1/24's. But since we have another track in wood (tZolderken) where we are going to race mainly with 1/32's, we gave it a try on plastic Petit Spa without magnets and reduced the power to 12V! At first I was a bit sceptic to race on Ninco (it think it's quite whobbly), but it turned out to be a great race night!

When we raced Group 5 with magnets, the Capri's were lousy... and the BMW's were very fast. Without magnets it turned out to be just the other way around! In the qualification Jo with the BMW 320i could take the pole, because the Capri drivers didn't dare to go flat out (they weren't adjusted to the concept).

The Grid: Jo, Bram, Slim, Ben and Gunther (first time on the last place on the grid ever!!!)

Qualification:
9.203=> Jo
9.342=> Bram
9.481=> Slim
9.767=> Ben
9.839=> Gunther

The times were not so close to eachother, but even before the start of the real race we liked our new concept! The races were all very exciting! We found it harder to pass eachtother too... we saw some great racing at minimal amount of laps from eachother!

Ben and Jo:

It took Jo three laps to go over Ben here: great racing for the spectators, bad for the hartrithm of the pilots! biggrin.gif

Gunther BMW, working his way up the ranking...

Ben on two wheels... action it was!

Ben coming out "Les Combes":

We had a very nice race! Jo's BMW 320i was very fast at first, but he slowed down quite quickly too! Unlike in the qualification Gunther could keep up with the Capri's. Ben struggled much harder with the not very ideal CSL. The 320i turned out to be nut such a good car to drive without magnets and fell back in the field. At one stint from the end Bram lead thet race 1 lap in front of Gunther, but the last one was driving faster and faster (getting more used to the car in these situations). During the last stint the CSL lost traction... a loose rear wheel caused this problem. The car lost a few laps, but kept his unexpected second place. If the wheel didn't came loose, it would be the same battle as last Fia GT race... it would have come down to a meter or so...

Final positions:

Position=> Laps=> Name=> Q. Pts=> R. Points=>Total Pts.

1=> 155=> Bram=> 2=> 10=> 12
2=> 151=> Gunther=>=> 8=> 8
3=> 146=> Slim=> 1=> 6=> 7
4=> 137=> Jo=> 3=> 4=> 7
5=> 131=> Ben=> => 3=> 3

We liked the non-mag race very much and decided to get magnets out most of the car (or all cars). Soon there won't be a plastic track in our "club". Petit Spa will be replace by a wooden version... so there won't be any mag help left...

...more pictures will follow soon...

It was a great race indeed. A special concept, but I think we all liked it. I sure did! Not only because of the result.... We saw some great racing, very close battles, something we don't usually see with magnets. Great idea Slim, let's do this again. Soon!
