C2597 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Jeff Gordon, DuPont #24

History
The Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet Monte Carlo No.24 Dupont car has been a favourite with NASCAR fans over the decades. Driver Jeff Gordon, with 73 career wins to his credit, has victories at a record 18 of the 22 tracks currently on the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup schedule. Success in NASCAR ultimately depends upon many things, but none more important than the engines that propel NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series cars to speeds approaching 200 mph. In 20 years of NEXTEL Cup competition, Hendrick Motorsports has earned its reputation as NASCAR's premier engine-building operation. As the only team in history to win four straight NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series championships (1995-98), Hendrick Motorsports has built a reputation as one of the most innovative operations in stock-car racing.

The Scalextric car
This, the fourth evolution of Scalextric NASCAR cars, is configured with a sidewinder motor (the preferred set-up) and the new round guide blade system which is also now accepted as a huge contribution to improved performance. The livery and sponsor detailing is to the usual faultless standard. A new driver figure is included in the detailed interior.

Advantages:
Modern NASCAR cars are not currently produced by other slot-car manufacturers. The colourful cars are robust with no small parts likely to break off, ensuring easy door handle-to-door-handle or drafting duels.

Features:
Side Winder, rear mounted, SP motor. Quick-change braid plate.

Also not a fan but if you've not raced a Scaley Nascar then you've not lived.

Nah, hyperbole like only Moped could conceive.

They are a blast mind and no fiddly bits to get all worked up about when they break off.

It doesn't appear like much has changed so I'm hopeful that these can run with the older ones.

Tires (sic) look like they may be a different compound - or is that just that my tyres are all dirty?

Hey Wankel,
Initial running of the new Taurus would indicate that they are slightly better handling than the older ones, certainly on our wood/copper track.
I've not measured, but they seem lower - and the tyres may well be a newer compound - very good with very minimal truing.
So given the choice - I would run a new one in preference to an old one - and when I say old one I mean the older s/w Taurus that was modelled on a brick as opposed to a Nascar!

A message from across the pond, having been behind the wheel of a real Nascar car, there are no door handles or side mirrors. In fact there is nothing stock about a Nascar. The cars are a chasis and roll cage with a sheet metal skin over them. The cars only look like there name plate. I have both of the new Ford's and have pre ordered both of these. I hope Scalextric gives us some Dodge power for 06.

Hmmm, I thought I was a Nascar fan...

I'm definately NOT a #24 fan...

But I no doubt will end up with these....

Hey, the #17 and #97 gotta have something to beat...

Wow, they are great looking and it sounds like they run great to. The thought of some cool drafting is appealing. I'm not a day to day NASCAR fan but I certainly respect what they do. Seeing these cars and reading how fun they are will end up costing me money in '06. Definitely going to try out these 2 puppies.
I usually like to have a set of 3 or 4. Any recommendations on 2 others?

Carge: Thanks for sharing the pics... great work sir!

I can't say enough good about 3 Amigos, they certainly have been very helpful to me and I feel their service is outstanding.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are trying to dig out from a big snow storm at the moment that swept through North America... I am sure that they will contact you soon!

Hi GrayM,
Les certainly does ship to the UK - I've had plenty from him before! He'll take PayPal now - which he didn't until I asked him about it - and is happy to do scales other than 1/24th - which he didn't until I asked him about it.
So to echo MGBrown's sentiment - great service!!
I'll drop him an email tonight - see how he is.

I recently bought the two new Ford Taurus NASCARS, they look great and go really well on my scalex classic layout. I don't have an oval track so its more like some of the stock car tracks and these cars are real fun. I have an older pontiac that I run on a wooden track on Tuesday nights and thats a great runner. Although I don't watch a lot of NASCAR racing, I really enjoy running these models on the track, I also don't worry if my friends run them as they are sturdy beasts. As soon as these new ones hit Australia I'll be placing the order.

Hello,

I've watched a bit of NASCAR but what attracts me to these Scalextric cars is that they look so colourful and robust. I'm looking forward to the Chevy cars being released. Reckon they'll look good racing around my local club track. Almost tempted to build an oval in my loft.
