The Zoo magazine circuit (covered here: Scalex record track) may be the longest Scalextric track ever.

But the record for the longest slot car track in the world goes to Spanish Ninco.
Last weekend a record-breaking 2 250 meters long circuit, consisting of 5 235 pieces of track, was assembled in Cornellà (Barcelona).

The track was powered with a standard Ninco wall wart, and the car used was the new Ninco Mosler Club Car, lapping the circuit in seven minutes.

The event also featured a full size Mosler car, in white and red livery to match the Club Car and also act as and "underpass" for its small sibling during the record race.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot: The record was set by a LADY driver!

Not sure if any representative from Guinness was present to supervise the event, but here are some pics, hot from the press...

A real Mosler 900 was residing over the track.

A female touch throttled the record.

Big Brother is watching Little Brother.

The full 2 250 meters of track in all its glory.

The Power of Glory. A simple wall wart...

Hi!

Great story! Thanks for posting it, Chapman. This is why I love my NINCO track. It has very reliable mechanical and electrical connections. You can assemble as big track as you like and expect it to work flawlessy. My biggest tracks have been only 50meters (164ft) long and I have never experienced any electrical problems.

Cheers!

Now that is quite fantastic. I thought the Scalextric/Zoo version was good but the Ninco one is in a class of it's own.

Thanks for posting!

Calling Adrian!

Scalextric can’t let this lie come on, there is an event here! And a record to beat Official or not. Time to build one big track to take the record then switch the Power Base and set the Digital record too! Ninco couldn’t do that!

But not in some cold dirty hanger lets get it indoors like Ninco did, how about a shopping centre which just happens to have a Slotcar shop in it? thumbsup.gif

That's the one I was trying to find the pics of for the other post - well done Chapman!

Yep - Ninco sure do have good electrical connections. I don't know if you remember Bleep, when we did the Land speed record Adrian had a few minor probs with power at the beginning when he was setting up, and then I did notice that half way down the long straight my car suddenly gained speed as it crossed one of the connections.

I think Zoo should be given an extra prize though for making a circuit far more interesting than going just up and down.

I wonder how people manage to drive the cars and stay on when it's right over the far side? I had trouble at last year's 24 hour event at eastcote - the cars there just seemed like a small blur on the far side of the room... must make an appointment with SpecSavers!

I just think that the Scalex effort was so much better with its intricate track, not just a boring left-right-left-right series of straights.
But adding a real Mosler as a centre piece was a brilliant touch.

Hello,

First of all I've got to say "WELL DONE" thumbsup.gif for achieving the longest slot car track and having a real Mosler there is a nice touch, BUT, blimey what a boring circuit. OK I know that "Thrust SSC" is the fastest car in the world just by driving up and down a straight quarter mile but I have to agree that the "Zoo" Scalextric track was at least interesting (as were the lovely girls smile.gif ).

How about a scale Spa or somewhere?

Nick

Impressive eh ??.
Just a thought, but what happens to all the track pieces after the event ??. Do they sell off cheap ??.
They wouldnt re-pack and sell as new would they, but there are a lot of "earth pounds" sitting there !!.

I'd love to see the car and the lap time after that. I heard the other day that a guy had made a track in his loft that took 25 minutes to complete. Yes my initial reaction was to explain the throttle action of controllers too but he thought it was genuine. Also (correct me if I'm wrong) the 1/32 Nurburgring would be 238.3 recurring meters long so imagine what the car had to do. Either way that's a really extensive way of running your car in. ohmy.gif . Thanks for sharing it with us.

Hello all Scalextric fans,
Please note that the Zoo track was actually a television thing, much like "Big Brother". Do not think that it was a real attempt at creating a world record. Although Scalextric/Hornby were involved they were not playing the lead role - I supect that the programme producer was. IMHO they settled for a specifically "Scalextric/UK" record and then used carefully chosen words that implied a world record. The Zoo layout was aimed at good television appearance more than functionality.

Compare that with the Ninco run attempt - OK the lady driver may be a bit "hammy" but I don't see any scantily clad women having to push the cars around when they lost power.

I have said it before - check the packaging on Scalextric/Hornby products - it is intended for 3 year olds.

But this was still a world record...it's the longest 'Scalextric' track in the world which is what they set out to do. Fair enough it's not the longest slot car track in the world and inco have done a great job to show what their track can do.

Scalextric cars aren't intended for 3 year olds- they just comply with regulations that say they are suitable for people 3 years and up due to small parts the same as many things you can buy. If you put a Scalextric car and a Ninco car next to each other neither look like a 3 year olds play thing.
