Dutch Trio Track, Wooden track made as tip-up construction Options

Hi everybody,

After the Dakar Track, I made in 2006 my first wooden track.
It is a 3 (trio) lane wooden track, made as a tip-up construction against the garage wall.

It was also in the January issue of the NSCC Journal and in the German slotmagazine Car-On-Line.

Like the floor, the walls are also made of mdf and in the same way machined.

The first track with drain covers. It will be a street circuit as in the 1950s until the 1970s.
The stairs are a little worn during the centuries they are in use.

Another masterpiece brewing. The dremel work is magnificent you must have the patience of a saint to do that, the drains are great, nice touch, the walls look good enough already without paint. Another tip taken onboard

Did you cut the slot in the track rather than router it

This is going to be superb when finished, just like your previous builds well done and I shall be following this to see it completed, along with countless others no doubt.

Thank you for your compliments.
Patient is necessary, but when it is ready, you also have the pleasure of your work.

I cut the slot in the track with a pendulum saw, with 2 blades soldered to each other.

The original cobble stones of the old road around the ruin are visible where the tarmac is damaged.

A piece of wall outside Ruin Bend is covered with some grit from the model train shop and mdf sawdust.

Fantastic work rallyhub. Your talent knows no boundaries! The cobblestone walls and track are just fantastic. I am really impressed with the track plan. You have shown that a layout that has a very high track to scenery ratio can be designed in such a fashion as to still be pleasing to look at. The variation of elevation and slight bends to break up the straights are just what are needed to make this plan work in a visual sense. This is going to be another standard setting track that we have the benefit of learning from.

It is great .you like the Trio Track.
Sharing ideas and how to do it, is exactly what Slotforum is all about.
Everybody is busy in his own way and style.
This gives a lot of inspiration to each other.
So I have also to thank you for your ideas on your own topics about Excerpt Raceway, Alpine Raceway and Prairie Ridge.

The way of getting saw dust and grit stuck in the still wet paint of the vertical parts of the walls.


The first layer is black. With some sandpaper you get a special black effect between the stones.


With a sponge, some sand coloured paint (second layer) is removed.


On top of the wet paint (third layer) is some grit strewed.


The first attempt of scenery on the pavement is ready, followed by some papier maché landscaping.

Hi everybody,

Here are some pictures about the painting of the wall with battlements on top.
First I painted everything grey, with a paint on turpentine base.
This avoids the swelling of the mdf.
I used the water based paint in the colours beige, black and brown
Other colours are also possible.
It depends on what you like to create.

The first layer of the turpentine based grey paint, to avoid the swelling of the mdf through water,
followed by the beige paint on water base.


mixing the 3 colours with the pencil and a piece of cloth.


The ear sticks used as tubes between the batllements,
after strewing the wall with sifted mdf sawdust and grit.


The wall from the other side. On the base you can see the kerbstones.
They avoid damaging the cars against the wall.

Coming from Ruin Bend.


The walls of the ruin are in the same way painted and strewed as the wall with the batllements.
This is important so you get the same style on the whole track.


The papier maché is used, because it is light. (I have to tip-up the track against the garage wall)
Look at the rusty coloured drain cover.(Black and brown paint on water base)


All landscape pieces are now covered with chicken wire and papier maché.
