Round 9 - Brands Hatch (Revised) 1 May 2007- DHORC 293
Adults Pateman Unlocks Winning Formula Lee Pateman took his first win at DHORC for 2007 on Tuesday night from third on the grid, having not won since October. It was great to see Lee running at top form again, hopefully he will be able to start to challenge runaway Championship leader Wayne Lander, who still leads despite missing this meeting, although by a much diminished points score of three points from Jamie Sismey who finished third at Brands Hatch maintaining his lead in the DHORC Challenge.. Nick Sismey moved into equal second with Simon Goodlip in the all time number of pole positions with his 38th on Tuesday, his first since April 2006! He also won all four Individual Qualifying Rounds for the fist time since DHORC 118 in March 1999, and set the most number of Race Laps in an evening for the first time since April 2006. With Jamie qualifying second this was the first time the Sismey family had locked out the front row of the grid. Tom Measham took a well-deserved second place in the ‘A’, his best result to date, after beating DHORC 292 winner Phil Rees, ‘C’ Final winner Martin Allsopp and Nick Lambert. Tom and Martin now lead the revised Team Championship. Behind Martin in the ‘C’ were Alan Bullock, ‘D’ Final winner Shloke Anand and Gary Weston who had a mare of a Final run. Roy Masters lead home the remaining three ‘D’ Finalists with Andy Fearn beating Peter Barber into fourth; leaving only Andy Dobbins, as he didn’t compete in the true Finals leaving straight after the Junior Finals. Juniors Ali’s First Hat-trick Ashley Hughes returned to DHORC after a two meeting sabbatical to take pole position but he couldn’t stop Kyle Ali equalling him on four race wins for the season. Kyle broke the Open Wheel Junior Laps record on the way to his first hat-trick of wins, beating Tom Measham’s January 2006 score, and remains at the top of the DHORC Challenge table. Claire Bullock continues to lead the Junior Championship with her third 3rd place of the year, Nathaniel Zimmermann’s ‘B’ Final win ensuring he and Claire maintain their Team Championship lead. Jordan Dobbins beat top ‘B’ Final qualifier Rayma Hughes into second in the ‘B’. Tommy Tyco

Round 10 - Elkhart Lake 15 May - DHORC 294
Adults Lander Back To Winning Ways (Twice!) Wayne Lander returned from a one race sabbatical to take his 8th win of the season but only after the ‘A’ Final was re-run. Jamie Sismey indicated that Wayne’s car was too wide taking him off on several occasions, including the first corner of the race. After some tweaks to Wayne’s car the race was re-run, Wayne completing 1.5 laps more than in the first running of the Final to break Simon Goodlip’s 5 year record by 1.4 laps. While Phil Rees had taken second in the initial race he found himself down in fourth this time, not a happy chappy but took it like the man he is. Lee Pateman, the ‘B’ Final winner would take third with Jamie finishing a creditable second. Despite not having raced at Elkhart Lake before (in fact only six of the 13 Adults had) Wayne set a new Qualifying record, beating Allan McPeake’s record by just 0.1 laps. Rees did actually match him on Yellow lane to lead after the first round of Qualifying. With Derby playing at Pride Park in the second leg of the Championship semi-final play offs it was surprising to have 13 Adults in attendance, only Tom Measham being at the match, Roy Masters just unable to attend. Nick Sismey was annihilated by Pateman in the ‘B’, the delta being 2.4 laps, with Alan Bullock, having won his first pukka Final, the ‘C’, since his return, in third, Martin Allsopp, who had qualified a personal best sixth, one place better than his previous best first set in September 2006, finishing fourth. This was also Allsopp’s 20th Club Night so he now joins the ranking list, in 20th place. Behind Bullock in the ‘C’ was the ‘D’ Final winner, his first, Andy Dobbins who agreed to stop a “little” later to complete his Final. Part of him wished he had not won the ‘D’ as that kept him from taking his two youngsters home for another three minutes. They were all a blur as they left the room after the ‘C’, I have never seen Andy move so quick! He didn’t even have time to be told that he had improved in all categories after his DHORC 294 performance! Andy Fearn was third in the ‘C’ a mere 0.1 laps behind Dobbins, with Shloke Anand just 0.2 laps behind him, another ten seconds and all could have changed! Shloke and Jamie now lead Phil and Andy F in the team championship by just 0.5 points, Jamie maintaining his DHORC Challenge lead. Peter Barber would again guard the wooden spoon as if his life depended on it, although Gary Weston would try his best to wrestle it off him has he ran his 500th DHORC Club Night three minute race! Our final Adult truth be known was actually Nick Lambert, but that was because he was on nights so couldn’t stay for the Finals! Juniors Bullock’s Hard Fought Victory While Claire Bullock took only her second career race win with her first max 243 points haul, first Club Night Fastest Lap and Race Laps, first clean sweep in the Individual Qualifying Laps (IQRs) moving her from 27th to 18th in the all time records chart, DHORC 294 has to go to Nathaniel Zimmermann. Nathaniel initially challenged Claire for the lead and then after Claire’s car left the track Nathaniel was up the road and gone! It took all of Claire’s experience to peg him back taking the win by 0.5 laps after Nathaniel threw his car off a couple of times in quick succession trying to match Claire’s increased pace. Only 0.04 seconds separated their fastest laps and after the race Nathaniel was a spent force, but he had put in the performance of the evening, all will have to watch him in the future!! Jordan Dobbins was only 1.7 laps in arrears of Nathaniel in Qualifying but being on an outside lane in the Final was unable to match our other two racers. However both he and Nathaniel improved in all categories at DHORC 294. Tommy Tyco

Round 11 - Indy 500 29th May 2007 - DHORC 295
Adults Lander, King of The Ovals Wayne Lander took his second perfect 243 points haul out of two oval meetings by winning the Indy 500 on Tuesday night, his nearest rival Nick Sismey being 35 points in arrears, after taking second in both events. With just one event to go, the Rio de Janeiro track in September, Wayne looks the favourite to retain his King of Speed title. While Wayne took pole by nearly two seconds (the fastest lap on each of four lanes added together) he was unable to beat Dave McPeake’s Adult Pole record, missing out by just 0.03 seconds, being further back from the overall record, set by Jamie Sismey when he was a Junior. Wayne did however break Dave’s two-year-old race laps record by 2 laps and added an impressive 19.6 laps to Richard Seaman’s 2005 Final laps record, completing 368.9 laps over the ten races! In addition to this Wayne took home 5.5 points for winning the ‘A’ Final, we didn’t have enough competitors to have a ‘B’ Final so all eleven drivers were in the ‘A’! Behind Nick came Phil Rees, who was having a terrific battle with born again racer Andy Fearn driving out of his skin, failing to make a podium by a mere 0.4 laps after over 300 laps of racing! Fourth was Andy’s best ever result in the Adults, by three places, as he beat Jamie Sismey into fifth, and Gary Weston into sixth. Martin Allsopp may have been beaten by his mate Andy for the first time, finishing in seventh, but he still set three personal bests (PB’s), improving his best qualifying position by one, with fifth, Fastest Laps with fourth from fifth and smashing his best Race Laps position by a staggering four places with second behind Wayne! Shloke Anand was just 13 laps behind Martin, in eighth, also setting some PB’s, qualifying two places better with sixth and recording the fifth best number of Race Laps of the night, a three place improvement! Behind Shloke was his mate and new member Sam Siddons, who beat two longer in the tooth members Peter Barber and Roy Masters, who wrestled the wooden spoon from under Peter’s nose, the only racer on the night not to make treble lap figures! Wayne naturally maintains a healthy lead in the Championship, even after missing a round and can’t mathematically be far away from retaining his title after nine wins from 11 races! Jamie still holds fast at the top of the DHORC Challenge, but his lead has reduced from 5.5 points, from Phil, to 4.0 points from Wayne! The Team Championship has new leaders though, thanks to Andy’s excellent performance at Indy, he and Phil now move into the lead, some 44.5 points ahead of former leaders Jamie and Shloke! Juniors Hughes' Nightmare Victory The headlines for this race could have been “soooo” different, with Rayma Hughes frightening her older brother, Ashley Hughes to death in his 50th DHORC Club Night start, in the ten race Junior ‘A’ Final. Although Ashley had comfortably qualified on pole position the “crash and you are out” rules for the ‘A’ Final saw the tortoise beating the hare on a number of races, Rayma some 19 laps in the lead with two races to go! However the tight inner curves were Rayma’s downfall, Ashley visibly relieved! Rayma had set PB’s in every category however, so a great evening for her, with new member Liam Smith our only other Junior in attendance, starting off his career at DHORC with his name on the front cover of the magazine! Round 12 - Albacete - 19th June 2007 - DHORC 296
Adults Lander Just Can’t Stop Winning! Wayne Lander powered through from a record-breaking pole position (beating Lee Pateman’s 2003 record by 0.5 laps) to take his tenth win of the season on Tuesday night. In fact the top five qualifiers at Albacete maintained their positions at the flag, with Phil Rees in second, Nick Sismey third and Tom Measham winning through from the ‘B’ to take fourth in the ‘A’. Martin Allsopp’s fifth place was one better than his previous best set back in February, while Andy Fearn was the biggest mover of the night, from eighth on the grid he took the ‘C’ Final to finish sixth ahead of Jamie Sismey (who was having a mother of an evening) in the ‘B’ Nick Lambert was the best of the rest in the ‘C’ Final with Alan Bullock making sure Peter Barber took home the wooden spoon yet again! Juniors Hughes’ Does the Double Ashley Hughes had no problem in taking his sixth win of the year at Albacete, Claire Bullock putting up the best defence, but having to settle for second ahead of Liam Smith, who has yet to finish off the podium, and Rayma Hughes. Junior Non Members Warren Takes Victory Mitchell Warren was our only Junior Non-Member and so naturally won this category but showed some of the Members the way in several categories! Tommy Tyco

Round 13 - Monza - 17th July 2007 - DHORC 297
Adult Rees Wins ‘B’ & ‘A’ Finals Phil Rees continues to show his Final pace in 2007 with his second victory of the season at the super fast Monza circuit. As in 1998 and 1999, the previous seasons that he took wins, he was again able to take more than one win, this time battling his way through the ‘B’ Final with Yellow Lane in the ‘A’ not phasing him as he battled his way to the top spot of the podium. This leaves Phil in equal first in the DHORC Challenge with Jamie Sismey, who drove a very mature qualifying to take third on the grid but was pipped by father and top qualifier Nick Sismey into third. This was Nick’s 39th Pole taking second overall in the all time pole position listings. Phil also maintains the lead of the Team Challenge with Andy Fearn, who was unable to attend on Tuesday due to work commitments. Second in the ‘A’, by less than a tenth of a lap, and favourite to retain his Championship title was Wayne Lander, who took a commanding lead early in the ‘A’ Final when Nick’s car failed to negotiate the banking due to a bent pick-up, but then could not match Phil’s relentless pressure for the full three minutes with a couple of offs! Wayne has also closed the gap to the DHORC Challenge lead to 1.5 points. Martin Allsopp equalled his best Final finish on Tuesday when he came second to Phil in the ‘B’ Final taking fifth overall, with ‘C’ Final winner Gary Weston, who had been at sixes and sevens on Race Control earlier in the evening for some reason, taking sixth ahead of Nick Lambert, who had again qualified in his favourite sixth grid slot! ‘D’ Final victor Roy Masters took second in the ‘C’ ahead of Alan Bullock, who showed his recent lengthy hospital visit has note affected his racing, adding nearly seven laps to his previous qualifying best set back in 2000! Wonder if he can also play the guitar now? Peter Barber was a whole Final away from the wooden spoon this time! Second in the ‘D’ Final was Sam Siddons, starting only his second race as a member, with close friend Shloke Anand taking home Pete’s spoon! Technically I guess we could say Andy Dobbins actually took home the wooden spoon, as he didn’t stay for the Finals! Juniors Bullock’s Hat-trick! Claire Bullock drove her best ever race on Tuesday night, beating Championship favourite Ashley Hughes fair and square on the fast sweeps of the Monza track. Ashley dominated the meeting except for the ‘A’ Final where too many offs prevented him adding to his tally of 2007 wins. Claire maintains her overall and Team Championship lead, while Ashley holds steady at the top of the DHORC Challenge. Liam Smith took his third, third, in three starts while Rayma Hughes almost smiled after her first Final win beating Jordon Dobbins in the ‘B’ Final into fifth! Junior Non Members Cook Comes to the Boil Reece Cook took the Non-Member Junior win beating Abigail and Emma O’Donnell, we hope to see him as a full member at DHORC 298. Adult Non Members Wright Brothers Victory to Phil Phil Wright overturned brother Nick Wright’s pole position to take victory in the Non-Member Adult Final. Again we hope to see them back at DHORC 298. Tommy Tyco

Round 14 - Sachsenring - 7th August 2007 - DHORC 298
Adults Lander Makes it Eleven! Wayne Lander recorded his 27th career pole position at DHORC 298, which takes him to fifth on the all time pole position chart, ahead of John Tague. However he failed to record a single Individual Qualifying Round (IQR) on his way to pole, with Phil Rees taking provisional pole on Yellow, Jamie Sismey taking Green lane, Tom Measham his first career IQR on Red and Nick Sismey scoring the highest number of laps on Blue. Wayne was able to convert his pole into his 11th 2007 Club Night victory, only Tom able to trouble him in the ‘A’ Final, finishing just 0.5 laps in arrears after fending Nick off for a short while, as he fell back to third. Wayne also recorded his fifth consecutive Fastest Club Night Race Lap, a personal record. Phil recorded the highest number of F1 laps on Tuesday evening as he won the ‘B’ Final by over a lap from a troubled Lee Pateman who had had to fight his way up from the ‘C’ Final due to an awful qualifying. Just over a lap wasn’t in fact that bad as he broke his hand controller (well Nick’s actually!) during the ‘B’! This took Phil to the head of the DHORC Challenge Championship table. Jamie took third in the ‘B’ matching his first ever Best Race Laps at a Club Night at the same meeting in 2006, with his second here. Martin Allsopp struggled in the ‘B’ after a good qualifying, not being on song in the Final, taking fourth. Shloke Anand took second in the ‘C’ Final ahead of Alan Bullock, with ‘D’ Final winner Andy Fearn coming home fourth, consolidating his Team Championship lead with Phil. Gary Weston also had a nightmare in qualifying and failed to get out of the ‘D’ as he kept Peter Barber and new Club Member Nick Wright at bay. Hopefully at the next meeting Nick W will also have his brother Phil Wright to race. Juniors Hughes’ Seventh Heaven Ashley Hughes and Claire Bullock swapped the lead on several occasions at DHORC 298, the former being tripped up a couple of times when his sister Rayma Hughes’ car stepped out of line round some of the tighter corners. However it was Ashley who eventually came out on top, by 0.6 laps, as Claire’s car left the track a couple of times during the dying moments, but it had been some race and it seemed unfair that anyone should have to lose! Claire still leads the main Championship, as well as the Team Championship, Ashley the DHORC Challenge. Rayma was pleased to finish third yet again, keeping her name on the front cover of the magazine. Junior Non Members Barber Too Hot For The Cooks! Lauren Barber returned to DHORC for the first time in 2007 to take pole position and the Non-Member Junior Final from the Cook Brothers. Reece Cook had raced before at DHORC 297 but for his brothers, Bradley Cook and Kobe Cook, this was their first taste of HO racing. Bradley took second in qualifying ahead of Reece, but the latter beat the former into second in the Final. Kobe was not far behind both in both qualifying and the Final. Tommy Tyco
