Received mine acouple of weeks back - so glad I pre-ordered when they first announced them, & looking forward to the Cortina too!

Re - the tobacco advertising - what gets me is how selective it is; liveries such as JPS, Rothmans etc get hit but obscure brands slip under the radar, theres been a couple of Gitannes done (think Sloter did one of their Lola T280s), & isn't Slotit next 962 livery Fortuna which if I thought was another brand of cigarette, just not as high profile as others!

Does anyone know if these cars have individual model reference numbers? I know the boxed set is C2923A, but wonder if the cars are numbered differently.

Well, there are no numbers on the underside of the cars...

This issue of no Tobacco advertising is getting a little ridiculous. I don't think that a car having a company logo on it is going to entice a child to start smoking cigarettes. It might entice a current smoker to change brands? A child is more likely to start smoking if they actually see their parents smoke or pop culture icon that they like smoke. I didn't start smoking as a kid because McLaren got the Marlboro sponsor. I started smoking becuase a friend of mine did. According to this absurd law every kid who is a Michael Schumacher and Ferrari fan who did not smoke should have started smoking when Marlboro switched to Ferrari. And all those people who are Dyson fans went out and bought portable toilets from Thetford.

For those who want the 1967 Honda, I guess that SCX will re-vamp their old car (sold in the UK by Scalextric as C36 around 1970) in their Vintage range at some point, as they have with the 'P261 BRM' which is actually a 1966/7 P83 H-16, and was originally sold as C37...

Guys,

As promised some pics of the digitalisation of these cars.

Basically they were done the same way. The Eagle has slightly more room than the Lotus.

The two front screw fixing holes have to have a notch cut out of them and the raised screw mounting has to be filed away.

[attachment=4464:Eagle_body.JPG]

Then the F1 chip has to have the excess reomved from the end.

[attachment=4465:Chips.JPG]

If you get it right the chip will fit snuggly in. As the Eagle has slightly more room I fixed the chip in place with a piece of double sided tape.

[attachment=4469:Lotus_Chip_Fit.JPG]

The driver needs to be trimmed.

[attachment=4466:Driver.JPG]

Cut the chips' Yellow and Green wires down and solder to the cars existing ferrite man.

Disconnect the exisitng ferrite man on the motor and connect the chips red and black wires in its place.

[attachment=4468:Lotus_Wiring.JPG]

Place the LED in the hole and you should be able to tuck the wires between the chip and the chassis. I also put a piece of tape round the Ferrite man to stop the possibility of shorts.

[attachment=4467:DSC01359.JPG]

You can put the driver back in position then put the car back together. You may find the driver gets pushed out of position whilst doing this but it is easy enough to wiggle him back.

Before running on the track make sure you put the body fixing screws back in fulll, as otherwise the body drags on the track.

Hope this helps.

Steve

Hello

I opened mine up to de-magnet them but my lotus has had it's magnet superglued in. Grrrr...Rich T UK

I have to say that the magnet in my Lotus Ford 49 popped out very easily so perhaps yours is just a tight fit. Mind you I haven't tried the Eagle Weslake yet!

Hi,
I have to say that if I have to choose from my collection, only one box to keep, this is my one for sure!!!!!!!
For many reasons including: cars , drivers, shape and year (decade), details like the helmet can be fixed.
By the way, am I wrong or Jim wore a white helmet in test day driving the STP Lotus?
Cheers, Eddie.

I realise this is an old topic but I hope as a new member I'll be excused for commenting now on a matter not followed through at the time.
The Scalextric Classics have individual numbers when sold solo. The Graham Hill Lotus 49 is C3031. The number is on stickers on the display case, and in catalogues.
It's a pity model numbers aren't stamped on the bottom of the car but it's become more common because, with different numbers, colours or livery, the motorised plastic is sold as more than one model. Varied Gulf Ford GT40s not only have at least two model numbers when sold separately, as do the Ferrari P4s, but also they're not quite the same as the Limited Edition set cars, being based on yet more race-driver-car combinations and carrying different race numbers. The Ltd. Ed. owner may be stuck with the set number.
It's a separate matter but even the Scalextric name isn't on the bottom of the cars now!
Rob

Knowing which car is which is what keeps the collectors in business...

Every car gets its own "C" Number every time a new livery is produced, a new livery may just be a change of race number or colour of the drivers helmet... spotting the difference for the man in the street can be hard... but a collector has to just "know" if the combination is "right" or something bolted together out of spare parts which is where Roger Gilhams books become a fantastic resource...

It would be an extra "production step" to number a car individually... the same base mould is used to produce a variety of colours, changing the mould every time would be very very expensive to please maybe a few hundred collectors... Yes its frustrating to look at a second hand stall and not know which car is which... but scalextric only sell them in boxes... those have the number on... its those they want you to buy! they make nothing from secondhand sales.
