That's it - NINCO have just issued a news release - and it will be compatible

Remember the Chinese curse : "may you live in interesting times" ?

Ooops, Sorry, Beppe, I sent you the info too late. :-(

Well, as far as I can guess from the press note, Nonco promisses 100% compatibility with standard slot, that means, you don't need to remove LC tracks for "old stile" race, just the "digital manager" and violà, analog track.

What do I do now? I was waiting to buy Scalex Digital, but after reading Ninco mail... it seem like some kind of anti-Scalex advertising, I mean, I can read "Wait!, don't buy Scalex digital, I promise you a better digital system".

Don't you, Beppe? (or somenoe else who read the note)

But don't push me to the maximum, shut your mouth and take it home, 'cause I decide the way things gonna be.

Mail is in spanish, you can find it here: http://www.ninco.com/docs/digital_noticia.pdf.

In brief, it says:

"Ninco anounces its digital system to be released in 2005. This system will be compatible with old Ninco cars, tracks and it will be possible to run analog or digital races on the same track. No more details until the pojec be over". There's more text, but it's chatter.

As Nep pointed out, it gives no details other than their commitment - it's obvious that they are still in the design stage and will not be providing any detail for quite a while - and NINCO are well known for keeping cards very close to their chest

My comments :

- NINCO track is by far the most common for clubs in Spain and Italy
- its (wider) lane spacing is more suitable to MCPL/Digital than Scalex's, and electrical continuity is good
- but I wonder how they'll get around Scalex's patent (*)

(*) in case anybody remembers, I'm the one who said that Scalex's LC activation system (lighting a LED under the car) was not patentable - but it turns out that they are also using it for lap counting

I agree, Beppe, it seems to be in an early stage. So as I said in Slot Adictos Forum:

Let's guess that Ninco hear our comments, quesion is: What do you expect from Ninco digital?

IMHO, a good starting point is, more than 6 cars on the track, say 14 or 15, like Davic. Also, a decent lap counter/timer is a must, or some kind of DS compatibility.

More suggestions?

Scalextric digital is the same, so they have said. Apparently you do not need to remove the LCs on scalextric either to be able to swap between digital and analogue. I have also been told that a scalextric digital car will run on an analogue system, without removal of its chip.

VERY, VERY Interesting. I figured they were working on SOMETHING. It looks like the old dBase/Paradox/FoxPro (for those in IT Land) or (Mac vs. Windows) battle again dry.gif dry.gif . Unfortunate that there is no standard. I would bet the chips are quite similar, but the signals, bits and such will be brand-specific.

XLot - I remember well your topic on Scaley patents. I would be VERY interested in a patent site or other info on the nature of the patent. Such should be available.

...It's a war, folks...but is the battle in YOUR interest or THEIR interest? question.gif
Duh!

sounds great!
but i really hope this does not become a ninco lapcounter situation, we were promised it a year and a half before it was launched, and when it was finally launched this is what it said in the box

Well - looks like digital is on every manufacturers mind then.

By the time they come to market, I will already have a "package deal" that will be plug and play upgrade to adapt model railroad DCC to slot cars.

You will simply route your track, buy my "kit" that will include a Digitrax control system.

Sort of like a Linux distribution to get the most out of the WindowsXP PC you just bought... tongue.gif

There - that's my press release... wink.gif

Great news. I think we all knew it wouldn't be that long before Ninco announced it. After all, Ninco is good at waiting a little longer than the others then creating something similar without many of the bugs. =)

I, as I was anyway, will now continue building my wonderful superior Ninco track. biggrin.gif

A few people were saying 'Ninco has some sense - they aren't doing digital!'

(not me, I'm lookin forwards to it)
