> Club info:

Timaru is one of the oldest slot racing clubs in the country, celebrating its fiftieth anniversay during 2009, now based in Broadstairs in Kent.

See: www.timaru.co.uk

Timaru has always catered for scratch builders, even from the earliest days when some members were employees at the then nearby Hornby Models factory. Today we run classes to the British Slot Car Racing Association rules (BSCRA) at both 1/32 and 1/24 scale, but with an emphasis on Falcon powered cars for not only Production but also F1 and 1/24 classes.

We meet on Thursday Evenings from approximately 7.30 p.m. onwards. Visitors welcome. Spare cars and controllers always available, so come and have a go!

Courtesy of Phil Green's (Club Founder) photo album and 'staring a cast of millions', including: Phil Green, Mike Billing, Bill Willis, Stan Kirk, Mike Short, Ian Plummer, John Davis, Nigel (Jacko) Jackson, Graham Sampson, Pete Williams (Medway), Alan Pointer (Reeds), Keith Drury (Reeds), Cris Nicholson (Reeds) and many others.

The captions are the originals from Phil's Album.

The club was founded at Phil's house (called 'Timaru' after the birth palce of his father) using Scalextric track but with a smattering of scratch built cars.

Another Scalextric track, at Worth Mill, the first Timaru wooden track was built at the same location shortly after.

The first wooden track - love the electro-mechanical lap counters!

Following the move to the Fleur de Lis pub (Phil Green still often to be found there!)

John Davis, Club Champion!

Pete Williams (Medway's multiple national champion) wins the annual Past & Present Open Meeting Trophy

Graham Sampson, Club Champion!

'The Spectators', slot racers at Brands Hatch and many other places including Alan Pointer, Keith Drury, Dave Palmer and Cris Nicholson from the Reeds Club. Alan Pointer went on for many years to drive one of the 'wreck' tow trucks which picked up the pieces after races at Brands Hatch.

If you know any of the people mentioned, we'd love to hear from you!
