Following on from Mr Townsend's recent Thread about how the club has survived over the past year, here is what I hope to maintain as a mainly pictorial view of the new FLBT Clubhouse, as it evolves.
All of the guys have been extremely busy (including working at night with no electricity - yet!) and as of today, the old 'Timaru' track started to take shape in its new home @ FLBT. Here is a link to some pics, that records progress to date... FLBT - New Premises - A Story in Pictures (Hosted by Flickr) -------------------- D-D-D-R-A-G RAP

Well spotted Sling'. Did you notice the strategically placed FLBT bucket as well to catch the cars? Pure Genius I say

Rob,
It's starting to look how I remember it! Are you adding any pieces or will it be the same as when in Margate? I notice that you seem have the high bit visible just above the main straight a bit higher than it was. This isn't a bridge (that's higher still) as from there the next bend (coming towards you in the photograph) is away from the straight. I remember that a 1/24 on red lane just clipped the underside of the barrier going down the main straight at that point - not enough to deslot but a definite audible click so I think we had it a bit lower. We should have cut a bit out of the barrier! Stan (Timaru) -------------------- Stan Kirk

OK, forget all that, I've just realised I have the perspective all wrong because the 'high bit' is what was the start/finish straight so that is basically the same height as the bridge.
Hope I haven't confused anybody except mself! Stan. -------------------- Stan Kirk

Thanks Stan!
It will be the same layout as in Margate. You're right about clearance under the bridge. We noticed it last week and have trimmed a non-structural bit of the support away so there is now 70mm-plus and will do the same with the barrier to allow hands, cars etc under a bit more easily! All the best Rob |

Hi Rob,
I look forward to being able to race on that track again. It was always one of my favourites. Will you be continuing with the variety of different types of cars you have been running recently? I assume there will be a Southern 32 soon and how about a 1/32 retro or a D3 Can-Am meeting. Anyway, whatever you race, you deserve to have a sucessful club again after the disaster of last year. Cheers. Mick. -------------------- |

Hi Mick
There's room for more tracks and current plans include HO, Ninco and a drag track, making us 14 Lane Blacktop! We look forward to plenty of series coming to see us once we are up and running. 1/24 might be a bit tight, but we plan a couple of easy mods to the track to make it easier at least to practice them. Best Rob |

Last night a huge leap forward was made.
The new track is now in one piece. It still needs final levelling and full tightening of the bolts, but it is one continuous track and lets us see the track in its new location. Halogen and Neon lights powered by a generator have helped enormously. Many thanks Graham and Neal. Once the loom is in place, (hopefully this weekend), power can be plumbed in and the track tested. I was one of the last people to see the track in Timaru and took it apart, so it was a huge pleasure helping to put the last pieces in and seeing it together in its new location. After a sweaty evening, a quenching down the local cooled us down. The Track in one piece (we has unplugged the lights and genny, so was taken in the dark!!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() andy |
