INVITATION to the ESDU 2010 European Championships in France

Hi everybody

The European Championships are held every other year, last one in 2008 in Malta, was outstandingly fast & competitive, the 2010 edition will be held in Nuits Saint Georges, France (the well known Burgundy wine district, close to Dijon), here are the latest news :

/ Date is confirmed : Aug 13 to 15, 2010

/ Track is a state of the art 1/24 scale quartermiler, certainly the fastest in Europe besides Malta.
It's permanently set up in a 25m long cellar in the middle of town :

9 quai fleury
21700 Nuits St Georges
France

/ Classes will be the complete ESDU program, 7 classes: Bracket, PS, SS, Gr12, Gr20, Top Fuel Dragsters(gr20), AA/FC

+ I "Theme class" that is chosen by the organizing comitee

+ 1 Vintage Class (No glue/no wheelies/pre’68 parts ) as Vintage racing is so popular in France

/ About the “theme” class, there are 2 options left, about which I’d like to have the entrants' votes ( 7xMM/PS vs 5x Microcar for the moment, vote not finished yet ) :

-Micro-car (Minis etc), guide post to rear axle suggested max 80 mm, max 1/24 body length possibly 130 mm, 12 motor, 100g (short cars have less body & chassis material so hardbodies at 100g are no problem)

- -MM/PS, 120g, inline, Gr20, Pro-stok hardbody . This is the most popular class in the USA today, it does make sense to start building cars in Europe that could be raced in the US.

/ Burgundy is very central within Europe so many racers will be able to drive here, we’ll pick long distance flyers wherever they’ll land, possibly Paris or Lyon.

/ Several housing options :

1 “gite”(rooms + kitchen), 3 rooms = 6 persons ,15 km from track, 460 € for the Week

Ibis 2star Hotel, 2km from track, breakfast included, double room: 32€/pers/night, single 53 €

Etap’hotel 1 star , 4km from track (2009 prices, may change slightly), double room: 25 €/pers/night, single 46 e

/ Georges Louis from Paris will hold the mike and do race direction as in most top roundy slot races in France, English version by Damien Bourne.

/ Some hotels rooms are already booked, it certainly would help us if the racers willing to attend would confirm the rooms they expect to need.

/ Contact Fred Barthelemy for any infos at : fredbarth@free.fr or 336 81 51 71 48

Thanks

Fred

ESDU 2010 European Championships move to Slotforum

Hi, me again

It's been very complicated to communicate about this race lately on the "other" drag board in Europe, racers get banned from that forum, threads started by ESDU Officers get deleted, obviously not much to expect there so
ESDU board & the 2010 E.C. organizing commitee

will handle all further communication, official, thechnical, or whatever through Slotforum only

Slotcar drag racing is moving ahead in Europe, we love the idea of being part of it.

Hi Fred & other ESDU officials as well,

Not complaining here, I can see the reasons why 2010 E.C. organizing commitee will post only here.
Just one question for ESDU officials:

QUOTE (Mahill @ 21 Sep 2009, 15:19) *
ESDU board...
will handle all further communication, official, thechnical, or whatever through Slotforum only

When was that decided and why was I left out ? I like to believe that I'm still an official with one vote.
I got the email but that looked more like a suggestion, no voting mentioned.

Like I said, no hard feelings. Just nit-picking here.

Regards,
Osku

Hi Osku

You're right, didn't express myself clear : 2010 E.C. organizing commitee is on Slotforum for good and will stay there, ESDU board hasn't decided anything although now that you mention it why not doing a vote and have everything square?

Regards
Fred

hi Marek

You're right, Finland could be the 2nd biggest army after Malta, glad to see the idea of flying abroad is progressing.

Only had Sifka, Osku & yourself + your girlfriend registered, no problem in adding Ari as well, how many rooms woulmd that be ?

Vince nothing from the Berlin guys , they had planned a race in October but no news, last time I talked to them they planned to make up a group to drive here

Regards
Fred

Hi Steeve

Reif-modelrenbann which was a commercial raceway is no longer in business, the owner lost interest, probably expected too much profits from that type of business.

Karsten Voll who's the head of the drag racing group worked there so no more job, the large former railway maintenance buildings where the dragstrip was set is probably still available though.
Karsten also had a bad car accident last summer but I taked to him after that and he thought he would be OK

Hi Fred,

Thanks for the clarification about the ESDU board.

A question about the unofficial theme class, is it allowed to use a theme class car in headsup classes also ?
I think that was the case in Malta EC, just cannot remember for sure.
That would help (at least me) to plan on what cars to build, depending on what the result of the voting will be. (Seems pretty clear already, 5 for microcars vs. 8 for MM/PS)

Cheers,
Osku

Hi Osku

Theme class cars certainly could be used with the same motors in one of the standard ESDU classes, Microscars in Gr12 + 25g & MM/PS in Gr20 + 5g (possibly narrower rears also as .500 wides would be a handicap).

Regards
Fred
