Having heard the top chaps mention using evostik (contact adhesive) for their tyre gluing, I used it today on my nice new big fat rear tyres for my Capri. .....not impressed....!!!
This is not a finger wagging, just a 'what the hell'. I smeared a little glue on the peeled back tyre/ on the rim and before you could say ' there goes a fiver', my ultragrips were shot? Hey ho! And just seen the 'Extreme grips' from NSR on topslots.....anyone tried them? |

Jim, Jim . . .Jim!
No! The glue we use is Glue - Flexy Cyano, (available from all good Slotcar retailers) it's very thin just like water, as a 2nd best Super Glue works and I bet you have some of that! As for the Extremes we tried them unfortunately they just don't work on our track, they are too soft and shred very quickly NB it was me that "Moderated" your post -------------------- |

Sounds like a bad day Jim, but know where your coming from on the tyre front...as metioned at Donington earlier today!!!
Trust me, Flexi-cy is cracking stuff...it doesn't eat tyres, but it will stick anything within a 10 yard radius to anything else if your not careful -------------------- |

it literally ate through the rubber in seconds. Like when you put the wrong kind of glue on polystyrene.

it literally ate through the rubber in seconds. Like when you put the wrong kind of glue on polystyrene. Please tell us what sort of tyres. Like Chris, I have used Evo-stik Impact contact adhesive for many years and never known it to damage tyres. Most of those years were with with the original formula, these days the "New Faster Drying Formula" Evo-stik Impact is all you can get. As far as I can tell, the newer stuff works just the same on all the tyres I've used, just dries a bit quicker. For sure I haven't tried every make of tyre in existence, it would be interesting to know about any tyres that might be damaged by Evo stik. That flexi black super glue stuff is good for some types of rubber, such as NSR Ultragrip. I've just tried it on some Ultragrips - the Evo stik doesn't damage the rubber, it just doesn't stick as well as flexi super glue There are plenty of other tyres where Evo-stik works very well. |
