All Fly classic, actually all Fly sidewinders come 11-36 as the stock gearing as does most all Scaly sidewinders as far as I know, Ive never seen any other gearing come in these 2 brands of cars in sidewinder configuration.
At our track I was the 1st to try the 13-34 gearing , others tried 12-34 and other variations but 13-34 has proven to be the optimum ratio for the Flys and a couple other classes that we allow gear changing.

ok 36teeth is standard fly. if you change the pinion to 14t you get a ratio of 2.57-1. if you use your 13-34 you get a ratio of 2.61-1. thats pretty close with just a pinion change. try it and let me know about the plus or minus in the lap times. my bet is you,ll do better lap times with the slightly higher gearing. john.

John, there is only 1 problem with your suggestion, as far as I know there is not a manufacturer out there that does a 14 in 6.5mm which is what it needs to be unless you change the spur to a 17.5 or 18mm, the only 14 pinions I have seen are 7.5 mm, the stock spur is 19mm and will only work with a 6.5mm pinion.
A couple other things also, I tried an NSR 7.5mm 13 tooth pinion and an NSR 17.5mm 33 tooth spur as an experiment which gives you a 2.53 ratio and let me tell you it flat out did not work on our track.
The relatively low torque of the Fly motors does not lend itself well to tall gearing. You need to have a bit of punch out of the corners to keep a good momentum and the 13-34 combo is right there, and coupled with the other mods done to the Flys to make it a smooth roller, this combo just works and we havent found any other that does work on our track.
I understand you trying to come up with suggestions to not have to change out the stock parts, but they just dont work in this class, besides I win too many races to change my setup now tongue.gif biggrin.gif

thats fair enough, as you say i was sugesting thing to use some of the standard parts. i dont usaully have to much of a problem.as a lot of my chassis have adjustability built in and i use old cheap parts. yesterday i paid £6 for 12 nos 13tooth pinions to mesh with the cox parma champion gears that i,ve got. cool that your winning a lot of races, i,m a bad driver, to much speed and to late braking. john
