Spot on Foggy with your car prep summary, I have prepared all the Viking club cars for years & have never been able to produce 6 same handling cars, there is always one that's the worst, our blue lane Nascar caused a few problems for many but a slight driving adjustment, problem solved.

not quite correct either Mat is the MHSC club rep
Abbo Can you please PM Foggy with the committees email addresses then we can all discuss via reply/send all something not available on the forum Nic/Foggy I think that the original email was lost to a virus on someones computor It is not the committees job to critic any club invited into the series, more to go along and enjoy a days racing, the first time I went to selsdon there were some concerns, and suggestions were made, some were taken up partly, others were not, as explained above. As I have already said this was Selsdons first 'hosting' entry to the series and possibley even their first venture into any racing series, (I dont know), I have never meet any of their drivers at any othere events other than the champions league, and I think they did a good job, there were a few problems, and this will be for the committee to sort out, I am sure the next round there will be better, (see previous responce 'to help and develope the clubs involved'). Please keep comments positive and direct negatives to race committee Zen |

I know it's late in the day, but I'd like to learn from what other clubs do and see how it could be applied. I guess the lack of written rules/instructions does cause problems and leaves things open to interpretation.
It was indeed not only Selsdon's first time at the hosting, but the first time of any kind of inter-club competition. I don't know who decided that Round 4 was Selsdon's turn? Maybe it would be an idea for any new entries in the future to host nearer the end of the competition so that they can go to the racing, see the format etc and be a bit more prepared. At the end of the day, I just race for a bit of friendly competition and fun, so all in all, I enjoyed the day. I know Selsdon are not the first club to have teething problems in entering competitions and will certainly not be the last but if everyone can learn from these things, it can only help improve the smooth running of competitions in the future. |

No, you're not the first club to have problems and the last thing you need is a nasty man waving his large wand at you publicly.
nightrider (Russell Turner) is good person to speak to regarding running race events and i am sure he will recomend the software and hardware that doesn't cost the earth to purchase. Or ABBO, in case i get accused of forgetting him. -------------------- Negative criticism usually comes from those who attempt nothing more in life than "sitting on the fence".

Hi, just for clarity - I did stay awhile after the event to delve into the software to see if it could be configured to print results by aggregate time instead of by points for heat finish positions but if it can I couldn't find it. The good news is that there's every lap in every heat stored so results can be hand cranked and cross checked but as it took all of the lunch break to get heats 1-4 into a spreadsheet I left it with FB Jr to do heats 5-8 in the realtive calm of the evening. On the day 10/10 to Selsdon for having the courage to take on hosint an event 2 years into their existance and also for the general ambiance - what a friendly bunch. Looking forward to going back next year when 20/20 hindsight from this year will undoubtably be put to good use. Cheers Paul Bizzell

Your comments really are not welcome and add nothing to the discussion, especially as you were asked if you wanted to be involved and declined, without going into details there were other things going on that nobody other than those involved are privvy to that caused some problems, these HAVE been resolved so please keep your opinions to yourself. Hi,
I just want to congratulate my family & SSCC members on the success of Sunday ! When they said they still was going ahead and doing the competition I was pleasantly surprised with what had happened a few days earlier, it just goes to show their commitment to the racing and wanting to keep everyone else happy. I think they did amazingly well under the circumstances of recent events and still put on a good show. I know they put hours upon hours of hard work, to make the day as successful and entertaining as they could. I know many people are being very negative and airing their views of how and what was wrong with the day, but I think if you haven't got anything nice to say then don't say anything at all! (back to basics!) It was Selsdon slot car clubs first time of running the club and they probably do need help and guidance in order to get the racing to some peoples standard! The club was only founded a couple of years ago whereas others have been running for years. Selsdon slot car club do the racing purely for fun and as a hobby, not as a business to make money. I don't understand why people are slagging others down its just school stuff I would have thought some people in particular would be grown up by now. Again I want to congratulate my family!!! WELL DONE!!!! & Thank everyone for coming & i hope you enjoyed yourselves & for the record HEAT RECORDS have been counted and will be on their way to abbo very soon. Jane |

OK,
Jane, Fred and other members of the Bolton family, I hope things go well with your problems and that they are sorted soon, if you read back through the thread I think that most comments made have been positive, and I hope your l club will continue in the challenge. Foggy, I hope you had a good days racing, I dont know if Selsdon have a committee at there club, or like someother clubs it is a one man band so to speak, if it has a race committee, it would be a good idea if you were involved (imho), it is a shame that you have only been able to the one round. As has been pointed out I had visited Selsdon on two occasions before the event had recognised a few likely problems, and had made one or two suggestions to them, I didnt get to checkout the cars, but then I dont see why I should, after all they are club cars and should be suitable, (a bit like the old mothers). Selsdon race on Saturdays and I didnt see any other members of the race committee or even members of other clubs there, there are no bans on other clubs or their representatives from attending, in fact the series was started to promote this type of activity, and maybe if this had happened the problems would not have arisen, one voice can be thought of as a pain, many have more validity, if others had gone along and voice their problems, I leave it for you to make up your minds. All the problems from the event have been sorted and I hope to see all of you at MHSC on the 20th March, and to seeing Selsdon in the series next year. Zen |

To be honest, the amount of back stabbing and hassle thgat goes on with certain people makes me bloody glad i did. Still haven't had an answer to my question regarding British GP tracks. Respectfully yours, Graeme. -------------------- Negative criticism usually comes from those who attempt nothing more in life than "sitting on the fence".

It is a shame that more people who race in the series dont write on the forum, I do think they read the reports, would it be possible for them to contribute to the threads?, we had a very good turnout but very few contributions to this thread apart from the normal few, lets hear from you lads.
Cheers Zen PS Graeme always good to hear from you mate. |

Just to clear up the British GP thing, Graeme is correct Slot 32 have never had any involvement. Over the many years of the series the host clubs were as follows Molesey, Wood Green, Eastcote, West London and Essex.

Ken, yes, it's a shame I've been unable to attend rounds 1-3, unfortunately my work requires me to work some weekends and this was the first weekend that didn't clash with the championship. If other rounds do not fall on working weekends then I'll be along.
Jane, don't take this thread too harshly, I've organised big shows at the NEC, Olympia etc and 99% of people really enjoy their day, 1% of those who enjoy it share their views, where as of the 1% who had a bad experience or not as good as expected, 99% will come back and publically let everyone know how bad things were. It's just human nature. We are all quick to critisise, but we rarely praise. I'm sure many of the people who attended had no idea of the troubles with the fire and the massive ordeal your family had and is going through. The cars were racing, the tea was flowing and all the people in the background of the organisation deserve a big pat on the back for not letting your troubles affect the racing. Many other people would just have cancelled the day but SSCC made it all come together. As Ken points out, very few of the 30 attendees have posted here so comments don't give a true picture. I've had some really nice praises from people in PM's and some great positive critisism that I'll be happy to report to Fred and Freddie to see if there is anything we can take on board. As you say, the club has only been running 2 years so it's all a big learning curve, but we're doing ok! |
