If you mean the Tomy pieces where cars can't pass...

...I won't be racing on those. When an oval is 'right' you don't need them.

Perhaps it could be the "Squeezy Cheesy Chicane" ?

I have to say, I can't see the Tomy chicanes adding anything to the oval experience. I think they actually take away quite a bit - especially if there is contact. That's one thing if you're racing slower cars on a small oval, but not running 20 feet a second with a Life Like T or SG+ ohmy.gif

I thought the layout in August was excellent and Dave's banked turns were just right - much more realistic compared with the Tomy 'wall-of-death' banked curves that allow you to keep full-throttle all the way round.

Remember, it's only really Daytona and Talladega (and only on new rubber) when you're staying on the gas round the curves, but then Nascar runs these tracks on restricted horsepower - like dialing our track down to 12V.

Dave is attempting to raise the banking a little for December, but with the rigidity of the Tomy track, that isn't easy.

For me, oval racing is different from running on a 'road-course' and requires different skills and techniques - particularly finding a rhythm.

That's why I think it's an interesting change and a new challenge. Of course, others might disagree. And there's no reason why we can't run Nascar rounds on 'road-courses' - they do in the real series after all.

Sorry folks but this wasn't my decision to add in the squeeze sections. NASCAR is Dave's baby and he wanted to try this out so i added them in. It would only take a minute to swap it out if practice showed there were a nightmare - Dave's ultimate choice though.

Can I suggest something else, why not add them in after, and try them in a bid to learn for future oval races?

I have actually raced on large ovals with squeezes before, and believe it or not, crossovers. I have experience of them and my days of racing my cars on them are well behind me. They are fun right up until the moment the car is smashed to bits, or you finish last because you are playing ''after you, no after you'' all the time.

Mmm, squeezes! Did you know there actually is an oval in Florida called Walt Disney World Speedway. You have to drive past it to get out of the car park having visited the companies most faamous character, if you get where I'm coming from?

OK the above post was an attempt at humour, hope it's a coinsidence but it appears to have killed the discussion, sorry about that.

Anyway on a more positive note, Woodcote is often encouraging you guys to try and catch some real NASCAR to help better understand what is a very different type of racing.......well here's your chance. The Nationwide (second tier) race is Live and for free at 2100 tonight on Premier Sports Sky channel 433. The Cup (real deal) race is on sunday night, again live and for free, same place but an hour earlier.

So if you've just been expected to sit through X Factor with nothing to look forward to aside from Tulisa and Kelly's outfits, treat yourself.

If you dont have Sky or Cable then it's a lot like the first ten mins of Cars the movie, seriously, it really is!

It was a bit of a late finish, but you don't get many championship climaxes as good as that biggrin.gif

nascar.com has the very tense final laps and the race highlights.
