> About:

The English Association of HO Racing Clubs (EAHORC) was set up in 2002 to promote club racing of HO scale cars in the UK. Races take place at locations all over the UK and we are always looking for new clubs to align with us. Check out our website for details of future events and a copious archive of past pictures and spreadsheets.

We also stand ready to help any home racers get more from HO, even if the do not wish to or cannot come to races.

It might be a good idea to start a new thread on the possible endurance race, of course it would probably be an even better idea to ask Dave H and Tony M whether they're happy with this.

Okay, just a few thoughts on this:

Firstly, 3 minutes at HONK is an endurance race for our usual Pro-mods. That track makes lasting 6 x 3 minutes a real challenge smile.gif

I like the idea of a longer race that uses the Eahorc Pro-mod rules - essentially anything goes except for the armature and tyres - because it gets people building a car with both speed and staying power. As Marc said, the parts are lying around in the UK already.

Crucially, it's getting the right magnets in the car. But who knows what chassis would be best? Anything from a Slottech to a Tyco 440 or Tomy Turbo question.gif

Alternatively we could run Eahorc Pro-Mod rules and insist on brass weights instead of traction magnets. It's just a thought...

As for timing. I would pass on an August meeting, it just doesn't work for me. An extra meeting squeezed in could be tricky too. Don't forget the AFX 6 hours is now an important part of the calendar in July and the HO Le Mans at Derby in November.

I still like Deane's idea for this year's HONK weekend. It didn't come off this time - but now more of us have experienced Tony & Dave's HO paradise (and some of us have been twice), does not the idea of a couple of races on the Saturday afternoon, a night on the town and the usual Sunday racing sound like a tasty annual highlight?

It does to me biggrin.gif

I'm not against an Enduro or other one-off meet at HONK, although I agree 100% with everything Andy said, but I do think it should come after HONK is established as a regular local club.

I have spoken to Tony about an endurance race in August and we are both up for it. It would of course depend on how many would attend. With the 6 hour in July and the new eahorc season starting early September would a Honk enduro be one race too many?
I have applied for a Honk forum in the club section, when it is up and running maybe we can discuss the enduro there.

Don't forget that there is an AVVHORA race in August too, at least I think so.

I will say the same as I said to Tony S, although he typically took it the wrong way, there are only so many weekend races one can put on as people are stretched as it is and will start picking and choosing.

Personally, I think that what HO needs is more local racing. This is an area where other scales are very strong, and HO never has been. I think that more club activity will be good for the long term future of our scale. The nationals and other weekend racing will be important too, but combined with more clubs racing regularly the scene as a whole will be solid.

For one thing there is a diversity of chassis, classes and rule possibilities beyond what we do now. This was the main reason I stuck with EAHORC, I was sick to the back teeth of only running Tycos and Super G+s. Things are much more diverse now, and clubs can really take that ethos and run with it. It is good for clubs to have a strong sense of self too, and see what they bring to the table. One only has to look at the potential of Al's timing system and Project Gareth down at WHO to see that is true.

I concede that the HONK track, now established as something unique and one of the best in the world, is a special case, and should be used more by hook or by crook. But I would, if I am honest, rather see HONK join the ranks of 'proper' clubs before it extends more weekend racing to the already discovered weekend crowd. Long term more local racing could harm EAHORC, why go away at weekends when you have place in your own area etc, but I don't think it will. I believe in there being more clubs and more club racing to take that chance anyway....

Dave - you mentioned somebody at Tony's unit knew all those local people that popped in for a look over the weekend? Time to throw a weeknight open night date out there and get the ball rolling?

Hopefully HONK will have it's own section soon, and this thread can be moved there.

It will be great to see some regular local events start up there. It's about the same distance from me as WHO so I'm looking forward to it. biggrin.gif

I'd probably go to some of the races too, regardless of which weeknight, but the core will hopefully come from the local contacts the HONK boys have made.

In fact we two plus Hannah (maybe) and the HONK duo plus John M (maybe) and a smattering of those who popped in on Sunday are enough for an open night.

If I was going then Hannah probably would too. Tuesdays and Fridays are our only two awkward nights, if anyone's making notes wink.gif

So let's sort out a Wednesday soon that we can get those that popped into on Sunday to come back for, and go racing.

For now the classes and whatnot don't matter.
