A bit of disapointment.

I've purchase the battery mentioned into the SCP-3 user manual.

Unfortuntelly, it doesn't fit.

The battery is too long and slightly too large.

Maybe Slot.it could remove this picture from the user manual.

Any suggestion from you guys?

Thanks!

Also, I assume you already tried to fit it in by sliding the end up under the connector pins for the cartridge? Sometimes it will go just far enough that you can shave a little bit from one side of the screw post. That's what we did when using a similar battery in the SCP1/SCP2 with the original oXigen cartridge.

I did exactly the same thing, I posted about this a while back, the manual needs amending. There are plenty of lipo's available that do fit, I had to buy one and the correct connector seperatley. I'm with you I couldn't bring myself to dremmel it....... as i say there is no need

The battery doesn't fit any way you try. Below the circuit board there are the cartridge connector pins and the power cable that block the way.

I understand the battery would not need to be changed often, I'm against the fact I have to use a Dremel to make a fix with a recommended battery, on a new device.

I'll go with a smaller one, as you did.

Have you sent an email to Slot.it? I think that Maurizio is aware of this and usually he is very responsive in updating documentation.

I bought four batteries for four controllers - they were slightly larger than the quoted dimensions in the manual. My conclusion: choose a battery with the red JST connector (very common) and which has dimensions no larger than specified dimensions and all will be fine.

Yes - the recommended part number is indeed larger than the specified dimensions and should be avoided as others have reported.

With the correct sized battery its a very nice set-up - dremel and tape to be avoided !!!

I know Dave but given that he does not spend anymore much time on this forum, it would be best if he gets emails from customers reporting the issue. One might be enough to change the manual.

So he might have forgotten to make a change.

He read this forum frequently, I can tell just by judging how fast he answer on post when we mention issue with Oxigen products or features. It's very good, I wish every manufacturer could do the same.

Unfortunately, I relied on the user manual to buy a battery.

I have read the post were MrFlippant showed the battery he bought. Looked at the local Amazon, here in Italy, could not find but the battery in the manual was available, so I went for a purchase.

I even thought to buy more of the same battery as I will buy two more SCP shortly.

Am'I unhappy? is it the end of the world? No, I will return the battery with no loss

Is it incovinient? Yes, I now need to find a battery that can fit into the SCP-3, without using a Dremel.

I just have wished that things could be more straight forward.

Hi C,

Yes the battery in the picture is larger than the suggested battery dimensions.

I should have compared the dimensions rather than relying on the picture.

I think if you want a product to be successful, you don't want to have your customer chasing after a mandatory part to have your product working.

I'm not unhappy, as I said I just have wished it would have been easier.

I don't think anyone would disagree that having a battery provided by slot.it would be ideal.

I also think most people would understand, very quickly, why slot.it do not include one, as soon as they look at the requirements for shipping LiPo batteries, never mind the regulatory requirements of selling them in the first place. They smartly leave that to the various people already dealing with that red tape. Unfortunately, the recommended battery, apparently, has enough difference in manufacture that some will just fit, and some will not. Should they have left the image out of the manual? Probably... but then other people would complain that they were not provided with an example.

Some retailers are going the extra mile by purchasing batteries that fit and providing those for sale along side the SCP3. For example, 132slotcar.us is doing that. Interestingly, with what looks like the same battery, though it's also shown fitted to the SCP3 without modification.

Yes - Turnigy have been manufacturing a 35-70C discharge version of their Nano 3.7V 750mAh LiPo for a while - that version was 43mm so in spec for the SCP3. The 70-150C discharge version used to be 54mm and so didnt fit the SCP3 (as some of us have learned). Now it appears the 70-150C version is smaller too... as per the above photo... thats what we call battery technology evolution.

The advice is simple... battery dimensions change with time... always check dimensions before buying if you want to be sure it will fit the SCP3.

I agree its confusing...

Sorry to hear so - I'm afraid there are two types of the same battery, with different dimensions.

Can you please check the size of your battery? Following the issues that some customers had, we specified the dimensions in the manual.

I've had a quick look on Hobby King and there are two type of Turning Nano 750 mAh.

The one with the JST + Walkera connector fits, sized at 43x24x9, the other one at 54x31x8 doesn't

I will make this more explicit in the manual

Thanks for the feedback

I have the bigger one, 52x29x9, the same one as the manual's picture.

I've ordered the one one that it is said smaller:

I should get it Tuesday.

I'll report as I have it.

Maurizio:

I think there may be three, rather than two, currently available versions of Turnigy 3.7V 750mAh LiPo pack:

1/ Turnigy Nano 35-70C discharge rate (mean then peak discharge rate) FITS SCP3
2/ Turnigy Nano-Plus 70-150C discharge rate DOESN'T FIT
3/ Turnigy Nano-Plus 70-150C discharge rate (smaller size than 2) appears to FIT SCP3 as per above 132slot photo. One other website shows this high discharge version with the smaller dimensions - needs further confirmation.

I ordered up four LiPos following (approximately) Maurizios max dimensions guidelines... and no problems. I think the only issue is that the photo in the first version of the SCP manual points to a Turnigy solution... and we now know these come in a number of size formats.

Hope this adds something...

I couldn't say it better (well of course English is not my mother language :D)
