I have just started to build a Dodge Challenger. This one

RMS Body, but plan to build the Chassis myself.

Fits to body like this, but will have 4 point to side of body, between wings.

Side view.

Now, I plan for a side winder. Although all my ideas are in my head, and building as I go.
Not to sure on how to fit the rear bearing mounts, but fronts will be a 'U' for axle to float, may use Slot.it front axle, small hubs.
Rear, well thinking of NSR 5006 - ALLOY WHEELS 16MM AIR SYSTEM VANQUISH. with their axle and gearing to a SLOT.IT SIMN08C - BOXER MOTOR 21.5K RPM. Not to sure of gear ratios, will play with that when ready.

Tips please, on the way to hang the rear bearing mounts. That has to be the next stage so I can then arrange the motor mount.

Cheers, and thanks for reading.

Good one mate...my first suggestion would be to use a U bracket for the motor and rear axle then fit it on top of your ladder frame.

Hi Saviour,
It's always good to see some one having a go at scratch building. I hope it turns out well.

A couple of thoughts about your plans.
If you're going to use a Boxer motor you won't be able to build a sidewinder, you will have to go for an angle winder as the motor is too long to fit between the wheels.
Both the Classic Slot Car Racing Association and Pendle (for their recent Trans-Am event) specify inlines only for these cars.

There are usually about 3 CSCRA events each year for Trans-Am cars (Pendle, Oaklands and Wellingborough this year) so if you make it inline you will have the opportunity to race it at other places and against other scratch built cars.

Best of luck with it.
Cheers.
Mick.

Hi,

Where did you get the shell from?

Any specific reason your using metal and not a standard chassis (although this is probably part of scratch building lol)

Good luck and keep us up to date with lots a fantastic pictures

Main reason for building a brass chassis. Never built one before, and it's about time I did. 20 scratch builds, all with off the shelf chassis.
The other, Requires 'Scalextric Camaro chassis'.. At over £8 for that, NO thank you, I can do a better job.
As above RMS. really well made shell, recommended, will be buying more.

This Chassis build is far more than meets the eye, but I knew that.

So, not having problems as such. But I think I'm in need of a JIG (Starts dancing, I'm a, Dancing Fooooollll)
So, What to buy? Where to Buy?
I think I'm going to build more than one over the next 50 years.

Cheers, and advice now needed.
It's lining the rear axle that I'm playing with. Keep being out by a mill or so in all directions.

Parts list for Challenger:-

SLOT.IT SIMN08C
NSR 4215
SLOT IT SIPA25
NSR 5201
SLOT IT SISP19

A new beginning. Not given up on making my own Chassis, just yet. Looking around for a good Chassis Jig.
So, found this, and it seems to work.

Yes, you got it, A Pioneer Mustang Chassis. with a 21K Tyhoon motor. Fits real well. Found a SH Chassis from a NB Mustang, trimmed it a bit. Thanks Dave. For having one. Bought a Typhoon 21K for another project, but thought it could work well. Wheels are CB Design Stock Car Wheels form Nic Hobbies, Tyres, not sure yet. Got to buy two Axles, and a SW gear. Then ready to build.

Thanks for looking, comments, welcome.

I love the wheels and the low rider look.

I intend to repainting some mustangs in the near future, love the look of a classic muscle car with custom hot rod style paint.
