The 2004 World Proxy Race rules are now posted at:

http://www.geocities.com/h_m_c_c/index.htm
This one is for sedan based silhouette cars cars. So now you all have a project to fill in the holidays!

This will be first of two proxy races to be conducted next year. The second will be for Sports /Gt cars built during the 1950's. Rules for this one will be posted in the new year and will be conducted later in the year.

Merry Christmas all.

I'm looking forward to building a car for this series, Phil. Thanks to yourself, Chris, Graham and Allan for hosting this event.

I love these cars!

Might just enter this Top Slot Jaguar:

Allan, will you be entering your Nissan Skyline?

Kind regards,

Russell

PS: Nuro, this needs to be "pinned" at the top!

Thanks to Wankel's great links page, I came across some 1/32nd scale resin BMW DRM Group 5 bodies, suitable for the World Proxy Series, made by DiTech Production in Germany.

They make the 1972 Schnitzer Jägermeister BMW 320s and the '68 Camaro that Jägermeister also entered in the 1972 DRM, as well as the Porsche 935 from the 1977 series. My favourite is the 1981 Rodenstock Group 5 BMW 320 Turbos.

The kits come with vac-formed windows and interior, photoetched grilles and other pieces and a decal sheet, or can be bought already painted and decaled.

The Rodenstock car was huge. In 1/32nd scale it measures about 70mm across the rear wheelarches!

Here are some pictures of the real thing; it's as ugly as sin:

Why oh why aren't vacuum-formed bodies permitted?! These bodies by MTR32 are magnificent:

And there are more!

I get scared when I see the good progress that everyone is making building new cars for this event!

Unfortunately, with so much happening at work during February and March (our 2004/05 budgets are due by the end of February and we close our 2003/04 financial year on the 31st of March, not to mention the launch of this baby), as well as other distractions such as the Dubai Shopping Festival, the ATP Dubai Tennis Open, the PGA Dubai Desert Classic and the Dubai World Cup (the world's richest horse race) all taking place during this time, it is unlikely that I will be able to finish a new car for the opening race of the World Proxy Race Series in New York in March.

I do however have this Opel Calibra, which I entered (and won) in the 1999 OWH Proxy Race:-

It meets the technical specifications of the WPRS and I could easily prep it with a fresh motor and tyres.

The question is, is the body legal? It's a 1/32nd 'ish' Scalextric C0596 Opel Calibra body, from the 'drug baron' range of Scalex cars that originally came with black windows:-

I flared the wheel arches out to 64mm and built up the front valance with sheet styrene:-

If it's legal, I will happily enter it. Comments?

Russell

VERY nice, Graham!

Chris, I can't find when the race is actually being held. I know that you want the cars by March 15th, but when is the race?

Kind regards

Russell
I'm pleased that I got you into something that you enjoy doing, Chris!

Thanks for the kind comments, newso -- and welcome to SlotForum!

Back to the soldering iron....

Kind regards,

Russell
Well done Bill! To split two Chris Briggs cars on his home track is quite a feat! Not much distance between Erling (120.95 laps), Phil (120.90) and Dave (120.25) either. It must have been quite a race!

Congratulations to all the entrants and special thanks to Chris, Matt, Brian, Dave, Steed and Frank for a job well done, especially the lovely trophy girl and Chief Marshal, Janice.

I hope to have my own entry ready for Victor's round but will need to do some more work if I hope to be competitive against this lot.

Kind regards

Russell
Hi Chris

For fear of taking this off topic, I've answered your question here.

Great looking websites!

Finally done! The body is a bit tatty, complete with battle scars, as it was used in the 1999 OWH / Daytona West proxy race. It's the only Super Touring body that I have so it will have to do, I'm afraid.

Victor, according to FedEx it should be delivered before noon on Thursday. I hope it works; it hasn't run yet!

Thanks, Phil. Stay Clean solder and flux -- without a doubt the best available. It's a high strength silver bearing solder and melts and flows at 430F.

I may need to get the car back after Victor's race to change the motor -- it sounded a bit 'flat' on my test-bench. Getting it to Oz won't be a problem from here -- Emirates is practically the national carrier of Australia, with two flights a day to Sydney, Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane...

Victor, I need to get my entry fee to you. I couldn't find how much it is. Please let me know.

With kind regards

Russell
Very professional, Victor!

Who are the proxy race drivers?

With kind regards

Russell
Thanks for letting me know that the car arrived Victor -- and that it at least goes in the right direction!

Looking forward to the race tomorrow!

With kind regards

Russell
Firstly, many thanks to Victor for successfully hosting this event. Victor's level of professionalism in making it happen so efficiently and smoothly was outstanding -- especially in terms of keeping us all informed via the website that he specially created for the event.

Secondly, many thanks to Stan Smith, Jim Cunningham, Steven Farr-Jones and Jim Wiseman -- all top-level slot racers -- for giving up their weekend to race the proxy cars. Thanks too to Rene Cortez for being there.

Thirdly, congratulations to Chris Briggs! It really was a case of the tortoise and the hare -- this time the hare won!

Fourthly, congratulations to all the proxy entrants. Just the sight of seeing 20 cars from all corners of the globe sitting on the starting grid alone made it worthwhile for me.

Finally, thanks to Mrs Ferguson for putting up with it.

The cars now go downunder for the Tasmanian rounds -- before then, I've got to change that motor! Who said that racing with "stock" motors is a great equaliser? Mutter.... mutter.... mutter

That's the spirit, Alan! We have got to beat those "Yank Tanks"!

Or at least try....

We hardly had to wait at all, Victor!

I just received my Calibra back from Victor, in perfect condition. It was beautifully packaged in a specially labelled box, complete with a vacuum-formed 'tray' into which the car sits snugly.

Many thanks, Victor!

Now to change the motor and get it off Downunder for the Tassie rounds of the World Proxy Race Series.

Kind regards

Russell

PS: I hate 'stock' motor class racing....
Sounds good, Dave -- but not really an era that appeals to me, as far as sports cars are concerned. What about the availability of bodies? Where can these be sourced and will vac-formed bodies be allowed? These would include the Ferrari 166, Alfa Romeo 6C 2500SS, Maserati A6GCS, Lancia Aprilia, Cisitalia MM Coupe, Jaguar XK120, Frazer Nash Le Mans Replica, Ferrari 340 America, Lancia Aurelia B20, Stanguellini 1100, etc. Would a Xylon be legal?

Ideally, the Targa should be run on Luf Linkert's superb track!

Now, if it were to be the period 1965 to 1970...... I would definitely enter!

The problem with all stock motor classes is the inconsistency of these motors; there are huge variations! I only had the one Fox motor that went into my Calibra. It was a dud. Phil has kindly helped out and sent me one of the new generation Fox motors which, to the best of my knowledge, are not yet obtainable in Europe nor the USA.

To do this type of racing properly, you need to buy 5 or 6 motors and select the best one. This becomes expensive and defeats the object of having a 'stock' motor rule.

Kind regards

Russell

Dave, if you've never heard about the Xylon, you're obviously not an avid reader of SlotForum!

Here are all the details about the car -- or rather, Howmet's challenge!

Phil, the Xylon (or Zylon) Frank Costin designed cars were built between 1959 and 1961, so it wouldn't qualify, unfortunately.

Sorry that I didn't send a car, Phil. I must admit that I've lost interest in proxy racing.
