We finally ran our first class of the season and it was quite close racing where Mike and Sandra swapped first finishes throughout the race. Followed by another tight race between Chris and Tom where it was not clear who won until the computer spat out the result. It was a relief that we after all the hiccups had a race night. Mike will be here shortly with the times and results.

Monday July 10th saw us running Open GT class here at Abertawe.

We didn't run qualifying as we had a slight hiccup with no brakes on Yellow Lane which took a little bit of sorting out, but when we traced the dry joint and re-soldered it, we were up and running.

First race saw Tom with his Arrowslot BMW with 3D chassis and Rick with his Crayola Mosler going head-to-head. Rick was fast and spectacular to watch while Tom struggled to come to grips with the level of grip, (see what I did there?). The problem appearing to be too much grip. The race ended with Rick taking the win from Tom.

Next up saw Sandra and Chris running identical Moslers while Mike thought it was time to try something a little different so he gave his Black Arrow Italia GT3 car a chance to stretch it's legs. Watch the lights and Mike false starts! It's a 3 second penalty and when power came back in, Mike promptly wheelied out of the slot giving him the even greater penalty of an 18 second first lap!!!! When the average lap is in the low to mid 5 second bracket, it was almost game over from the start.

The remainder of the races followed a similar pattern with Rick taking the next 3 races from Tom whose misery matched his grip levels while in the other 3 races with Sandra, Chris and Mike, honours were split between Sandra and Chris with 2 wins apiece with Chris getting fastest lap of the night and a new lap record of 5.036 seconds. Unfortunately, Chris had a poor run in his last race of the night which probably cost him top step on the podium.

Ha! "Spectacular to watch", i.e Tail sliding like a Loon 😂 !

I De-Slotted to often.

There's gotta be a Sub 5'scnd lap on the cards - "Cool Hand Chris" with his 5.03'odd, & I got a 5.09'odd. I'm thinking if I prep my tyres a bit more & control my Trigger Finger better - Then 👍.

Congrats of the night go to 'Slot-Sista' - Very Well Raced Sandra 👉.

Great craic. Cheers guys, Rk 👍✌

Monday night is DTM night, if you don't have a DTM car, then Group 5 can be run for fun but not for points.

See you there!
I'm putting a DTM together, but quite a basic one. No 3D chassis, just a motor Hop-Up & Track-Prep. Will start working on it after GB F1 on TV Today 👍

We ran the DTM class last night with Sandra, Rick and Mike running DTMs. Sandra and Mike were running SCX Merc and Audi respectively with Scaleauto A/W chassis and Rick ran a SCX Opel Astra V8 with stock inline chassis modded to take a Boxer type motor. Tom and Chris came armed with Sideways BMW M1s.

Qualifying saw Sandra fastest followed by Chris, Tom, Mike and Rick.

The heats saw Rick and Mike in together with Mike taking the honours in all four heats. Sandra, Tom and Chris did battle in the other heats which saw Chris taking 2 wins with Tom and Sandra taking one apiece. Again we saw Tom struggling to come to terms with the grip levels of the track but he produced an absolute stunner of a lap with 4.856 seconds beating the track record that he set just last week with his NSR Mosler in the Open GT by 0.2 seconds!

Overall positions were Chris taking top step of the podium from Mike, Sandra, Tom and Rick.

At this stage I need to give a special mention to Ricks modded SCX Opel Astra V8 which he put together that very day and cost him less than £15.00! This car was an animal down the straights and I'm sure Rick will coax more performance from it and tame the handling a little for next time.

So, after this race, the DTM class is led by Mike, from Sandra and Rick with Chris leading Group 5 from Tom.

Blinking Cub Scouts & Their Jamborees !

Here's an idea = Talk with the Scout Masters to see if you can introduce a new badge = Slot Car Proficiency - Bronze, Silver , Gold.

Cubs & Scouts LOVE Their badges, the more the better, so one could create a Fun, Entertaining, Sporting & Skilled New Badge for them to try for
thumbsup.gif

Perhaps once a month / 6'Wks or so, the track could be set up for the Scouts, not on our race night but for them to learn slot car racing.

If it's successful, the Scout Masters would then see that it's a Valid Idea, as it promotes inter-activity which isn't glued to a computer screen etc
thumbsup.gif

If it really takes off then neighbouring Scout Troops may well get their own more basic Scalextric Sets for inter Scout Troop Challenges
thumbsup.gif

Bronze Badge = Ninco'1 etc, to meet or beat a set track time.

Silver Badge = Basic Tuning Skills with a quicker Lap'Time than Bronze Badge.

Gold Badge = More complex tuning skills & Running a Slot.it, NSR etc to a set Track-Race-Lap'Time

Then Alles Klar Fräulein !

I showed some Slot Car video to the dude at a motor factors shop the other day & he was impressed.
He didn't understand Slot Cars until he saw the video-
He immediately knew SCALEXTRIC though
thumbsup.gif
I know that you've made some 'flyers', but I think you should change them to something along these lines
...................................................................................................................................................................
SCALEXTRIC RACING / 4 LANES / SCALEXTRIC RACING
Scalextric Racing In Swansea Area
(contact details etc)
4 Lanes Of Excellent, Competitive Fast Fun Timed To 1:1000'ths Second
Hand Build 4 Lane Wooden Routed Track
( Put some images of the track here )
Contact Details Etc
.................................................................................................................................
So they'll have longevity = Laminate 50+ of the flyers then post them in Swansea Motor Factors / M.O.T Stations
Mechanics Garages / Petrol Stations / Post Offices / Leisure Centers / Tesco / Sainsburys / Aldi / Morrisons / Asda Etc
So Many People Will Have Run SCALEXTRIC as a kid.
Slot Car Racing could be taken as something to do with a gambling machine!
Nearly EVERYONE understands what SCALEXTRIC is
